Beautiful, fresh and fruity beginning that morphs into a vintage, powdery, clean scent
I got the opportunity to travel to Magog, QC where La Grange du Parfumeur is. There, Alexandra Bachand's atelier makes its business in an old repurposed barn, surrounded by a lovely garden where people can stroll while perusing her perfume collection. I learned of Alexandra Bachand and her fragrances through the book Jardins de senteurs where she combines gardening with olfactive experiences. I was really eager to test all of her scents (some of which have made it to the Osmothèque de Versailles). I was unfortunately unable to pick up a discovery set (they'll be back in October probably), but I snagged two of her fragrances (in travel size) that stood out to me. This one of them.
The beginning smells just like a lemonhead candy. It's sweet, slightly tart, fruity and citrusy. It smells very fresh and uplifting, but at the same time it's a very sophisticated, mature smell. Bergamot and green apple notes are the strongest notes at the top. After a while, green tea starts to mingle with the green tea while bergamot fades slowly away. The arrival of atlas cedar and vetiver turns this scent into a vintage, powdery, fresh and fruity scent. I also get a soapy vibe, like a luxurious hotel soap. Atlas cedar is not at its strongest here, but still imparts a deep woody quality to the fragrance while vetiver offers spiciness and warmth. I'm still not sure what combination of notes turned this scent into a soapy composition, but the drydown is all that.
Overall, I feel like this fragrance would be fit for a mature person (late 20s up to their 50s). It has this vintage, almost old quality to it. Fresh, clean and nice to wear for warm weather. For my part, I wish the beginning had lasted longer. I loved the fresh, tart and fruity beginning where green apple, bergamot and green tea mingled. I'm unfortunately not a fan of that soapy, vintage and powdery feel I get in the middle / end of the perfume. This is why a full bottle will not be making it to my collection, although I will be using up the travel size until it's done.
