Interesting Facts

When W.B. Smith and his daughter Madeline Scott bought an old country house on the Bermuda island of Saint George's in 1933, they laid the foundation for a small and exclusive fragrance empire. Initially, the concept was considered unfeasible because Smith and Scott wanted to produce high-quality perfumes with the help of local lilies.

The country house was remodeled and expanded with gardens and fields. With over 500,000 flowers, production began on the first fragrance, "Cedar," which appeared in 1932. Since then, "Lili Bermuda" has developed numerous other fragrances under the direction of perfumer Isabelle Ramsay-Brackstone. The label deliberately makes itself scarce, and releases a new fragrance every few years. This "artificial bottleneck" is intentional. It results from the limited raw materials in the gardens, and also underlines the brand's exclusivity.

The fragrance's high quality is also reflected in the handling of the flacons. The bottles are produced and cut in France's best glass manufactory of Verreries Brosse, and are generally hand-filled. In addition, each bottle is provided with a woven and printed ribbon to symbolize the fragrance it contains.

"Lili Bermuda" is a comparatively small label, but according to experts and critics, it easily competes with the industry's big players. However, procurement is not quite simple.

The fragrances of "Lili Bermuda" are available exclusively on the label's website and directly on site in that old country house on the Bermuda island of Saint George's.
