4711 - The Muff Remix
I really try to get something out of 4711. After all, Cologne is my favorite city in Germany. I can manage with the original now, but the Nouveau Cologne has failed miserably. However, Remix Cologne sounds really cool and on the test strip, I'm already greeted by a nice lemony breeze.
But what is this? At first, there's only alcohol. For the first minute, I really smell nothing else. And then the familiar neroli-lavender note that we know from the original sets in. So far, so good, but something is off. I suspect it's mate, but that actually smells different. It rather reminds me of a synthetic byproduct that doesn't belong here. Dull, musty, and slightly bitter. This makes Remix Cologne a no-go for me. Even though the scent shifts in favor of a bit of iris and squeaky clean musk. I quite like that now, but it's typically very faint and can only be smelled directly on the skin. I don't smell sandalwood or praline. The scent doesn't change anymore and fades after about 3 hours. So the longevity is better than the original and the Nouveau Cologne.
While reading the comments, I became a bit uncertain. It seems to me that everyone smells something different here. And especially something different than I do. I do not perceive Remix Cologne as a powdery and iris-heavy floral scent at all. To me, it's simply 4711 with a bit of iris and that other scent note that bothers me so much.
Overall, I'm rather disappointed. 4711 is simply not my brand.
