I smell so-called violet roots for babies (but iris)
Special scent. Special perfume. Acqua Colonia Saffron & Iris smells light and delicate, fresh yet earthy, free yet supportive, lovely and nice, sober and peaceful.

The strong dark violet color of the bottle label matches the flower of the iris named Iris, but the scent of "Saffron & Iris" itself would be represented more as light and somewhat earthy if one were to interpret it in color.

More the natural white color of a so-called violet root, which is given to teething babies to chew on... Perhaps a bit of pastel green and light silver, in which the flesh of bergamot is reflected, too. Wikipedia and other internet sources say that the so-called violet root is actually an iris root. So it makes sense that the perfume reminds me of the aroma of the violet root, which I chewed and loved as a baby and child.

By the way, I can't recognize saffron here. But I also don't know for sure how saffron smells in perfumes.

If someone likes Dior Homme Intense but finds the vanilla in it too much or enduring, they might find a good find here. But only if the initial citrus is acceptable.

I like to spray my laundry with this Colonia.
Especially after 10 hours (drydown, when the citrus has faded), it smells good.

The scent is balanced like a calm fresh mind and therefore appears relatively neutral to lovely.
It is not as weak as some testers might initially assume, as its aroma is distinctive and has quite an effect. At least within a 1m radius.

Further scent associations would be the smell of fresh spruce wood, just broken fresh branch, or, when you peel the soft bark from a fresh damp branch (so that the white surface of the wood comes to light and the slippery wet green inside of the bark can be smelled).
If you consider the citrus top (and heart?) note, I could also say that a thirsty fragrant wooden table absorbs Italian lemon ice.
So moistened, you can smell the wood well.

By the way, it is one of the very few perfumes that I can tolerate while sleeping, so I can even wear it to bed or have it around me (because there is no vanilla or similar).

I only give 9 out of 10 points for the scent because I find the bergamot note almost unnecessary, and you have to endure it for 15 minutes until it makes way for the essential scent and it smells so nicely mild.

Excellent from a Good House
The "fragrance house" 4711 has been around for a good 250 years now. And certainly not without good reason:
Its scents are timeless and modern at the same time. In addition to the "classics," there are beautiful themed fragrances that can also fill niches. I think of the "Acquas Colonias Intensas" like "Acqua Colonia Intense - Wakening Woods of Scandinavia | 4711" or "Acqua Colonia Juniper Berry & Marjoram | 4711." They represent certain scent sequences very realistically and pleasantly. The Iris & Saffron theme is no different. Here, contrasting "scent temperatures" have been combined, which both contradict and complement each other. A cool "night frost iris" becomes a delight for the nose with "warm afternoon saffron." This reminds one of early spring days like the current ones or early autumn days, as often occur in October.
Not a "loud" fragrance, yet well perceivable in its simple, yet refined beauty. "Excellent" brought together by perfumers who follow a long tradition of fragrances:
To combine the fashionable with the timeless, with sophistication and imagination...

Under an Umbrella in the Evening...
The Acqua Colonia scents have partly blown me away - partly they have also made me feel a bit gloomy.
That's why I proceed with caution when testing.

But the saffron - iris combination is very successful.

Just two ingredients - but they pack a punch.

Intense and powdery - earthy, my surprised nose is greeted by the iris, which still has its roots in the earth.
This is how my autumn garden smells, after a rain shower has just passed over it.
The saffron blends in gently - and refines the fragrance.

I don't need to trudge around in the wet garden, but I bring it into the house through the scent.
An outdoor - indoor fragrance, so to speak.

"Relaxing" is written on the cover - and I have to agree with that.

Saffron & Iris radiates calm and tranquility - just like a walk in the soft autumn rain.

Music to go with it: Under an Umbrella in the Evening...

At least the purple on the label excites me
The Acqua Colonia series from 4711 has really taken off. At least the idea of creating and offering fresh cologne scents with two main players under the 4711 label is not wrong. At least a few more than usable duos have emerged from this, such as Mandarin & Cardamom or Lavender & Thyme, although the latter unfortunately disappeared from the German market quite quickly due to allegedly insufficient demand. In other countries, that refreshing thyme-lavender combination is appreciated much more.

What I like about Saffron & Iris is not only the attractive purple on the label but also the consistent maintenance of the freshness theme. Naturally, alongside the two main players, there is a citrusy bergamot note that refers to the origins of the house of 4711 and gives the composition a summery, fluffy character, while officially inviting relaxation.

Unfortunately, there is hardly any noticeable saffron. And the iris is less powdery than one would expect, rather leaning towards the synthetic side. This slightly dampens the mood, even though this Acqua Colonia offshoot exudes a lovely, gentle, and minimally bitter nature that at least spreads good cheer. Although this floral-spicy mixture is labeled as unisex, which is true, the tendency leans more towards a young lady (can one even say that nowadays without being branded by feminists?) than towards a bachelor.

Personally, I will sooner or later intensify my search for Lavender & Thyme, even if I am not quite as fond of that purple as I am of Saffron & Iris.

Rather muted saffron, watered down, makes me
think more of soaps or similar. That’s it for 4711, the original remains the best.

Oh, what a friendly scent experience...! Fruity-fresh iris, sparkling-summery like a sorbet, creamy like a fine body lotion. Sunny!

Beautiful "Warm & Cold" scent with endurance. "Night Frost Iris" via "Fireplace Saffron". Or: A March high with cold nights and warm days.

Initially clearly recognizable as a fresh cologne, then mild, gentle iris. Very fleeting, almost ephemeral.

Fresh, medicinal-powdery scent. Iris is subtly noticeable. H+S is rather low, but that doesn't harm the fragrance. Lovely!
