Loses the magic of the EDP
The EDP, original (albeit only by a couple of months) version of this is a study in jasmine. It uses the rare enfleurage technique to extract a true sense of jasmine in its entirety, and then layer it over a light base of wood, and brighten it with signature citruses. The original is moderate and floral - light in the opening with a smooth, creamy jasmine lingering through the balanced drydown.

This Ambrosia version is very different. The promise is a more expressive, opulent take on the DNA, with a slightly more woody accent to the jasmine.

Alas, that's underselling how much this changed. More than anything, it's now a vetiver perfume not a jasmine. It's a good vetiver, without the smoke or dampness of something like Sycomore, but the jasmine retreats too far, rendering this a different fragrance entirely - not a flanker.

There is a really compelling cardamom in the opening, adding interest to the citrus, but this does rather quickly present heavy vetiver. The tea, like the jasmine, is barely a presence here, but does help soften the wood, adding a touch of nuance throughout. The fragrance does rather quickly transition into its promised woody state, with the vetiver accompanied by a warm, if overly spicy sandalwood, and a barely-there cedar.

I like it, but it's a far cry from the original, and somewhat of a disappointment in comparison.

Smells great
When you first spray it, there’s a bright burst of lemon which gives a crisp, fresh opening. The cardamom adds a subtle spice and aromatic warmth, while frankincense gives a touch of incense-like depth right away. It’s not overpowering, but there’s richness in that opening contrast.
As it dries in a bit, jasmine comes forward—floral but elegant. Iris brings a soft powderiness that smooths out the sharp edges. The black tea note adds an interesting complexity—slightly smoky, slightly bitter—which helps ground the floral and citrus, making it less “just pretty” and more layered. Myrrh shows up and gives a resinous, slightly sweet-ambered aura.
In the base, woods dominate: cedar, sandalwood, gaiac, with vetiver weaving in some earthiness. It feels warm and rich, somewhat creamy from the sandalwood, with a hint of smoky-wood depth. The floral and citrus from earlier linger, but gradually fade into these woods and resinous tones. The scent ends up being elegant, somewhat luxurious, and with decent presence.

An exciting mix of citrus notes with incense in the top note. Later on, it becomes distinctly more floral and complex!

I like the EDP much better. The Elixir is less refined and somewhat overpowering.

Very floral and fresh. I perceive iris and jasmine the strongest. Otherwise, it's slightly woody. S/C very good.
