Mediterranean Lily Dream
My last vacation didn't take me to Sardinia, but to Italy, where I was able to discover the Acque di Italia line. Similar to the Blu mediterraneo line from Acqua di Parma, this fragrance line is themed around the diverse landscapes of Italy, akin to a journey through scent.
Gilgio di Sardegna is a warm, creamy lily scent, which gives it a certain heaviness that is somewhat alleviated by green accords. It merges with the skin, quickly attaining an animalistic "skin" note through amber accords; by this, I mean a certain coziness and light sweetness.
For me, the fragrance tells less about the beautiful island of Sardinia: typically, I would expect something like Pino silvestre or Nuit etoilee from a "Mediterranean coastal landscape" theme, citrusy accords, coniferous woods, heat in bottles...
Instead, I perceive Giglio more as a love letter to Italian women, regardless of their age. It is therefore definitely not a unisex fragrance, but a very feminine one, gentle and sweet, warm and floral.
I have spent some time in Italy, and I have encountered women in business suits with stylish haircuts and glasses in the industrial cities of the north, as well as older women dressed in black in the rural towns of southern Apulia.
Of course, it's a silly thought that they all would be recipients of the same fragrance - but conversely, the scent possesses something of all these types of women, something very Italian, a lot of zest for life, and to throw in a few clichés: a bit of the warm but resolute nature of an Italian mama, a bit of dreaminess and temperament, as we would attribute to Shakespeare's teenager Giulia, something of the style and fashion consciousness that I could recognize in many women, whether they were dressed in that business suit or in a floral dress from the weekly market...
Thus, it is a very feminine fragrance, which distinguishes it from the more unisex scents of the Blu mediterraneo line.
Overall, Gilgio is a lovingly crafted, small fragrance, not complex, not epically elegant, but it brings joy, is (even north of the Brenner) suitable for daily wear, and has a longevity appropriate for an EdT.
