Apparently, exactly my thing
It took me years to dare approach him.
His reputation as Donnerhall made me very reserved towards him.
Now that my large stock of "Diane" by Diane von Fürstenberg has shrunk a lot and is no longer on the market at acceptable prices, I had to make a serious effort to find a new signature fragrance. So I ordered one of these pink flacons at an absolute bargain price because it was listed as a fragrance twin of my beloved Diane and the risk of a possible misbuy would not be a drama.
Two days ago the first anxiously expected sprayer was delivered - seriously expecting to have to take a shower again Very soapy, but clearly with the certain undertone that all my favourite perfumes have. It will be exciting to see how it develops. Anyway, at first nothing arrives in my nose, which makes my imagination think of a brothel. Clean, elegant rather than wicked and still soapy.
After about 30 minutes I am thinking whether it might not be better to give it away immediately. He's become powdery by now, and I'm not that powdery.
My scents have to be rather harsh and woody - but I know this phenomenon from other scents, which became my absolute darlings afterwards - So Pretty by Cartier, for example, I found at first quite terrible to love him hours later crazy!
And so also here - still approx. 15 minutes later he develops an incredibly soft woodiness, which only becomes elegant. Absolutely far away from the mainstream, absolutely unsweet and exactly my thing!
I don't tend to be sparing with perfume, but I don't seem to have any Sillage, because after we hugged each other to greet each other, several women asked me if this madly great fragrance appealed to me.
He keeps me sprayed in the morning until the evening hours.

My body the handgrenade
Agent Provocateur was one of those classic blind buys, based on what felt like 100 read Parfumo reviews and a very tempting price-performance combo. Arriving yesterday, I was extremely curious, as polarizing scents are a particular pläsir of mine. First impression: this is Opium's piggy pink sister! Whereby the haptic superfine bottle is a total misdirection, with pink-lovely-powdery Agent Provocateur has not the slightest thing to do. It doesn't even want to. The top note pops in any case spicy-herbaceous, as I find, and was for me not at all assignable. Anything but pleasant. Rather putzmittelscharf and just tart. Mentally, I was already thinking about how many coins I could sell this thing to the community in the souk. On the other hand I knew, well, he and I, we will need time. AP doesn't polarize so fiercely for nothing.

In the heart note then suddenly something flowery, more pleasing opens up, probably the rose. Interestingly, has been present on my skin (wrist test overnight) left the rose, right the herbaceous. So much for individual skin chemistry ;-). By the way, my skin is normally a scent eater, quite a few scents are hardly noticeable on me after a few hours at most. AP has easily survived until the next morning. The base I would then even classify as unisex, soapy-clean and there issie yes again, the opium DNA, of which I do not know where it comes from.

Conclusion: I like it. This is a fragrance that is probably severely underrated. Complex enough to develop some edges, beastmode as far as longevity and sillage go, interesting. Those who like it super pleasing probably won't enjoy it. One of the fragrances that demand great entrée

Sexy, dirty musk
Agent Provocateur is such a distinctive, unique and daring fragrance.

When I first sprayed it, I was almost blown over backwards with the strong florals mixed with the spices. It was a little too heady and 'in-your-face' for my liking. However, minutes later I sniffed my wrist once again and realised that this fragrance was growing on me.

Slightly powdery, yet strangely sexy, Agent Provocateur is one perfume that changes with every sniff. One minute it's musky, next minute it's sour, the next it's sweet.

I agree with the majority that say that this fragrance is sexy, because it most definitely is sexy. However, in my opinion, Agent Provocateur is not your typical 'brothel' scent, it is much classier, more suited to the woman that is in control and enjoys her own feminine sensuality.

Because this fragrance is primarily rose, jasmine and spices, this fragrance is for women and not little girls. The pink bottle with the black ribbon, although well suited to the fragrance, may attract younger consumers and discourage the more mature woman from trying Agent Provocateur.

I would wear this as an evening scent, since it exudes such elegance and sex appeal. Although, like the overall promotion of the fragrance suggests, this can also be worn as an intimate night fragrance with that special someone.

Rose Chypre Revamp
Agent Provocateur is a rose chypre in the 1970s-1980s style. It is gravelly like many rose chypres, but it seems to have a less gigantic rose than that of Lauder's Knowing and Rabanne's La Nuit for instance. AP's rose is rich, but comparatively low-wattage. It joins the patchouli in harmonious fashion and gives AP its oriental style lushness. The different rose changes the tone of AP. It is expansive and takes over the conversation as the genre tends to, but once it does it doesn’t free-associate senselessly and endlessly in cocaine-club fashion (Montana’s Parfum de Peau for example.) AP is as big as the others of the genre, just not as overpowering.

I know many dig AP for its vaunted used-drawers nastiness, but I just get that mineral scent of soil that patchouli can lend to rose. Smells like a garden, really.

Who is Agent Provocateur?
If you read through the fragrance notes above, you might not catch the right drift of Agent Provocateur. AP is a dirty and suggestive (in all the best ways) rose fragrance. The saffron and corainder combined with the musk, takes this uprtight powdery rose in a somewhat inappropriate and backroom direction, which is quite addictive. Like one of those powdered wig courtesans, AP has a formal outward appearance, and trappings of a traditional rose scent, but also a complex spicy sharpness that often leaves people divided on whether or not they like actually like it. Also, it opens with a bitter sharp blast (much like Montale's White Aoud) that takes a few minutes to calm down, so hang in there for a few minutes if you are trying it for the first time....

Frank, dirty saffron rose, layered and beautiful. If warm/sweet, it'd seem needy/obnoxious. Isn't. Doesn't. Doesn't care what you think.
