Misstep in the Spice Rack

The underlying idea behind the fragrance is actually very classic and appealing: citrus and pepper. They go well together, both in scents and in the kitchen. It's no coincidence that lemon pepper is often available as a ready-to-use spice blend.

Unfortunately, the same cardinal mistake has been made here that is often experienced in cooking: the aromas are placed in context with other ingredients that simply do not want to match. As a result, Aigner pour Homme unfortunately comes across as completely overloaded. The beautiful freshness of the citrus pepper is overwhelmed by the combination with the rather oriental cardamom-nutmeg duet. Both are very distinct and beautiful scent pairs on their own. However, in combination, it just doesn’t work for my nose at all. It’s as if a novice cook has wildly grabbed from the spice rack. Such a thing can lead to exciting dishes. Or not. Additionally, the other complementary notes come across like a kind of flavor enhancer, making the fragrance not only overloaded but also hopelessly over-seasoned. This olfactory glutamate would indeed benefit longevity and sillage, if it weren’t so unharmoniously put together.

Perhaps Aigner pour Homme doesn’t seem so scratchy or unpleasant when considered on its own. However, when compared to other fragrances in the same vein, the qualitative differences in the composition become quite obvious. There are, of course, plenty of examples of how it can be done better. I would particularly point to "Honos," even if (and perhaps precisely because) it is difficult to compare. The same basic idea of citrus and pepper, which is very common for men's fragrances, is arranged and seasoned completely differently there. Of course, I don’t want to compare apples to oranges. But in terms of aroma composition and harmonies, this can serve as a vivid positive example.

In short: This Aigner is unfortunately an absolute misstep for me, whether in the spice rack or the perfume shelf.

exactly SerSch: A go-to, whether it's summer or winter.

I still remember the bottle, but not the scent anymore (strangely, it was like that with some Aigner fragrances). Glutamate trophy! ;)

I can't really place it... Winter or summer... It's not bad, but it always confuses me...
