Sweet Red Energy/Vitality
The opening of Evoke Him Red Edition is dominated by strawberry and tonka bean, giving it a very sweet, fruity and almost gourmand start.
There is a slight counterbalance to that sweetness: the strawberry has a small acidic edge — perhaps 5–10% of its character — together with a very subtle spicy touch of cinnamon and cardamom. Still, neither the acidity nor the spice really change the direction of the opening, which remains intensely sweet and fruity.
For me, the most interesting element is the lavender. It can be clearly perceived in both the opening and the heart, adding an aromatic freshness that gives the fragrance more dimension and keeps the sweetness from becoming completely flat.
In the heart, caramel blends very well with the tonka bean, creating a recognizable praline-like effect. The amber gives the composition a pleasant balsamic base, although the benzoin and labdanum remain quite muted and never become truly prominent.
Longevity is not exceptional, although projection is perfectly acceptable.
As someone who loves resins, woods, oud and darker fragrances, I would personally enjoy this much more if the resinous and woody side had considerably more weight. There is a darker perfume hiding underneath the strawberry, tonka and caramel, and I wish Ajmal had pushed further in that direction.
Despite the sweetness, it also feels fresh, energetic and youthful, largely thanks to the lavender. I also do not see this as a purely masculine fragrance at all: to me, it is clearly unisex and could easily be worn by a woman.
Some aspects of the composition also remind me of the Swiss Arabian DNA, especially the rich sweetness, gourmand character and soft balsamic background.
Overall, an enjoyable fruity-gourmand with good projection, but for me the lavender is what really makes it interesting.
