Getting Lost In A Dream World
It doesn’t seem real to me. I’ve had my eyes on these AA perfumes since they were launched on the market in 2020, but the average 50ml format compared to the slightly higher price has always discouraged the purchase. Until today, when the Tigotà chain of stores put this Tonka Musk on super-promo, at €19.90 the EdP. Without hesitating for a moment, I put it in the cart and now it is in my collection. Meanwhile, I’m waiting for the right time to arrive at "Amber Musk | Alyssa Ashley" and "Rose Musk | Alyssa Ashley" too. Others were added in the following years, but these three represented the first big breakthrough after the original Musk. Before describing the perfume, I would like to point out that Alyssa Ashley's perfumes, despite often being very affordable, are not of poor quality and indeed, often include noble raw materials and ingredients, and the noses that create them are also prestigious.

What to say about it? An unexpected explosion of toasted bitter almonds is what I smell at the opening. Unexpected, because my nose and my mind are calibrated on white musk with hints of blackberry, my instinct expects a variant of this accord, and this bitter almond aftertaste catches me unprepared. It is very strong and inebriating, perhaps the result of the ingenious melange between cinnamon and tonka. I imagine myself spreading a mix of cinnamon sticks and tonka beans on a baking tray, and then baking them at a medium, slow temperature to toast them; throughout the kitchen, and slowly throughout the house, this almond aroma spreads, a little gourmand but very bitter and not nauseating. The cinnamon arrives immediately, warm, and pungent, but not the sweetish cinnamon we are all used to. For example, you don’t feel the cinnamon-like in Potion Eau de Parfum, where the spicy aspect is very marked. Here it is already wrapped in a cloak of toasted tonka, on a sensual background of white musk, what we learned about with #ashley musk.

I let some time pass, and the cinnamon reduces its potency, leaving room for the tonka. Its smell has caramelized facets, with tones of vanilla and almond. Sometimes I also find touches of hay and tobacco. However, tonka produces a smooth, very warm, and balsamic olfactory result. If I smell the box where I sprayed the perfume, I get alcoholic scents, almost reminiscent of the Amaretto di Saronno liqueur. The skin mitigates this nuance, which with its warmth and chemistry highlights the notes of tonka and the slightly animalic and salty notes of amber. Now the essence also takes on sweetish tones, which override the more bitter ones, while always remaining on the border between the masculine and the feminine, never too saccharine or saccharine and not even virile or rude.

Minutes, and hours pass, and the softness of musk and vanilla emerge in all their splendour. The fragrance takes on powdery, powdery and musky nuances. Now it’s a skin scent, but its warmth and delicate sweetness can be perceived if you get close to the places where it was sprayed. Clean and powdery is the last trail.

Tonka Musk is not intrusive, despite having an important character. In its evolution, it touches accords of almonds, coumarins, and caramel, as well as musk. I would say that both the duration and the projection are moderate, and those accustomed to the extraordinary performance of the original might be disappointed. But those who love intimate perfumes will appreciate this essence. If used in the cold seasons, in the autumn and winter months, the perfume can be worn both during the day and in the evening. It is good for going to work, or for dinner or an evening event. Did I like it? Yes, it did not disappoint my expectations, and I have not regretted the purchase.

I wrote the review based on a bottle I have owned since April 2024 (BC 3501268A, PD 2021-09).

Like Glittering Snow
"In Christmas times, I like to travel..." once wrote Hermann Hesse, and this applies to me as well. Every now and then, I find myself in the quaintly lively Tübingen - quaint, because all the Spätzle and Mauldäschle are simply cozy; lively, because Tübingen is the youngest city in Germany, with a student population making up a third of its residents. Because of this daring, vibrant mix, I love this little town, especially now, when the half-timbered houses are festively illuminated and the cold makes it all the more tempting to step into one of the beautiful shops. When I feel really cold, I usually seek out the small but very fine niche perfumery that offers so many wonderful brands: Initio. Widian. Xerjoff. Creed. Amouage. And so on. Outside, I am intrigued, as there are always a few bottles that must fly off at a special price. I usually test them all and sometimes decide on one, and this time it was Tonka Musk by Alyssa Ashley.
I didn't know the brand, but the price was extremely tempting, and after the third so-and-so musk came... Tonka Musk. What I could perceive after just a few seconds was fascinating: A pure, deliciously sweet tonka bean radiated far beyond my wrist, as if I had balanced a tealight on my palm. Tonka Musk is so bright, so clear, so fresh, as if a thousand little bells were ringing on a sleigh. This tonka bean, in its intensity, reminds me most of "Wicked Good | Gallagher Fragrances," but since it completely lacks the chocolate, it shines all the brighter, and I truly mean that: Incredibly finely spiced, it smells of cinnamon and marzipan, without being even a hint too heavy. The fragrance notes act like a bell-clear laughter that swings upwards and carries you along. This purity surprisingly resembles a firework, sparkling like champagne, instantly blowing away all fatigue. Into the evening's cool darkness, it shines like a clear star in the night sky and glitters like crackling snow in the sun. Like crystal-clear water, sparkling-fresh, it awakens and alerts you, ready to stay awake for a long time. In its effect, it is almost like an Eau de Cologne - but much sweeter, more elegant, and infinitely long-lasting. Sprayed on my turtleneck, it envelops me throughout the evening with sweet wafts of marzipan and is still very present the next morning. Over time, its cool, fresh, spice-soft cinnamon sweetness fades into gentle musk powder, becoming quieter, more transparent, the radiance turning into a glow.
Anyone who likes tonka should definitely try this fragrance. The beautiful composition, the fine, moderate sillage, and the good longevity, as well as the unbeatable price, make it so easy to gift yourself this Christmas present long before Christmas Eve.

Tame Hybrid of Shalimar Millésime Tonka and Obsession
Now I'm jumping in again for a cheapie! And rightly so. The
"Tonka Musk | Alyssa Ashley" is a wonderful fragrance that everyone should at least sniff.
I already knew "Musk (Eau de Toilette) | Alyssa Ashley," which I didn't like as much. Accordingly, I didn't have high expectations for Tonka Musk. But once again, I was completely surprised.
The scent particles from the first spray reached my sense of smell and I thought, I know this! I could actually detect nuances of Shalimar Millésime Tonka and "Obsession (Eau de Parfum) | Calvin Klein." Not in the strength that one knows from both fragrances, but quite tame and much softer, yet unmistakable.
CINNAMON & TONKA should actually be the name of the fragrance. Because those are the notes that are mainly detectable. A soft, non-dusty cinnamon note with an incredibly beautiful portion of tonka. However, tonka here is not, as in many other fragrances, overly sweet or overwhelming. It integrates perfectly into this cozy scent, blending with amber and vanilla into a harmonious, subtly spicy mélange that merges beautifully with my skin and radiates softly, not sticky, warm, soft, almost velvety. Those were all the components. More is not needed.

The result is a tame hybrid of Shalimar Tonka and Obsession, an office-friendly version, a version that should also appeal to those who find Shalimar Tonka too spicy, too smoky, too powdery, or too sweet, or who think Obsession is too animalistic, too spicy, or simply too masculine.
Tonka Musk combines all the beauty of both fragrances into a truly delicate and wearable version. The price-performance ratio is fantastic. The longevity is unfortunately not very long, but at this price, that doesn't matter at all. The sillage is also not overwhelming but sufficient for the office.
A handbag fragrance for winter that simply receives far too little attention.

No Replacement BUT
I was looking for a good dupe or replacement for Shalimar Millésime Tonka since it has been discontinued. I'm tired of searching for discontinued fragrances.
Tonka Impériale was not it. The tobacco is bothersome and there's something else that's hard for me to identify. It also doesn't develop well on my skin.
Then there's Love Mi! A beautifully rich scent, but it's too caramel-like for me.
I thought I might continue searching. This one doesn't cost the earth. What the heck?

If that wasn't the best decision of the week! What a fragrance!
Although it is definitely similar to "Shalimar Millésime Tonka | Guerlain," it has a different vibe for me, creating a different mood. Therefore, it's not a dupe for me, but still an independent, beautiful scent.

Where Shalimar T.M is very dark-spicy-deep with excellent sillage, "Tonka Musk | Alyssa Ashley" is bright cinnamon-sweet and very creamy-soft with okay longevity and intimate sillage.
I think it's the musk that gives this fragrance its special quality, making it so fine and radiant. Otherwise, it would have slipped into the dark and might not be anything special.
As it develops, the scent becomes a bit sweeter, but it never gets annoying or scratchy. Definitely worth a test, and definitely even a blind buy candidate for all gourmand noses here.

I agree with the statement that it smells much, much more expensive than it is, and due to its uniqueness, it doesn't have to hide or diminish itself in front of any niche fragrance. Keep your head up, "Tonka Musk | Alyssa Ashley," you smell better than many overpriced, complicated niche scents that you don't know when to wear...

A bunker bottle will definitely be purchased someday.

The Tonka Tart at the Dentist
Recently at the dentist. One would rather be somewhere else. The familiar smell of disinfectant in the air. Then a cheerful, cinnamon-sweet Tonka bean aka ZFA sparkled past me. Her colleague immediately asked her about the fragrance that brightened the whole room. Tonka Musk. 5 minutes later, I had shopped. When the scent arrived after days, I was initially confused. This cinnamon sharpness with cognac hit my nose and overshadowed everything else. But after a short while, this disruptive note fades away, leaving a noble, spicy-not-sweet, creamy-refined Tonka scent, a marzipan croissant to spray on. Delicious and unpretentious.

Vanilla lures cinnamon and tonka under the covers, and then it's cuddle time. Powdery and with just a hint of sweetness from the musk. I really like it.
