Have A Cigar
I have already written in some detail about the Cuban capital as also about the scent in the respective commentary of the Havana Eau de Toilette.
Nevertheless, there is a little story to tell about the after shave. It begins a few years ago, when I visited a friend of a friend and discovered an almost empty, slightly dusty bottle of this aftershave lotion in his bathroom. Although I was absolutely familiar with the scent, I was fascinated by the fact that they still had the very last few drops and apparently did not want to throw the bottle away. The original version of Havana had long since been taken off the market, the prices on ebay were exorbitant and I could absolutely put myself in the position of the owner. Perhaps many good memories were connected with the contents and the last remainder was not necessarily guarded like a treasure, but at least it was consistently kept. Who knows if and when he would ever empty this bottle.
At the beginning of this year I encountered Havana After Shave again. This time at a flea market, still in its packaging (albeit a bit doped), almost full to the brim and olfactory as well as the bottle in perfect condition. The seller casually presented it on his small stand next to all kinds of junk and probably didn't know what he was selling. For a few Euros the Apres Rasage changed hands and I am very happy about the relatively fat catch, which I would not sell at a profit, but would like to keep for myself and use it
There is a small difference to the eau de toilette, except that it does not burn in shaved areas ;-)
The after shave is a little more complex and comes up with greener to slightly herbaceous and fresh fruity notes.
But here too, the sweetish tobacco dominates, including a good shot of green conifer freshness with depth. Then the warm nuances such as amber, musk and patchouli are mixed in. All in all typical 90s, but in a positive sense. I don't know if something like this would still work today, or rather, I think that nostalgics are more likely to be enthusiastic about it. At some points the scent seems to me to be too concentrated or better said too intense.
There's no question that Eau de Toilette is more finely composed and much more durable and would definitely have been the better alternative, if it existed, with the whining being on a high level.
So I'm happy about the lucky coincidence and enjoy not only the fragrance but also this truly outstanding stylized, iconic bottle as a fitting homage to a cigar or Havana.
