Bal d'Afrique in pink
The name Pink Woods in combination with this fragrance makes me think of a surreal, kitschy forest landscape where fairies might live. With literal pink trees. For some reason I find that mental image quite appealing, even though I'm not sure if that's a sign of good taste.
As for the actual scent, it starts very sweet with cotton candy, undefined fresh florals and a touch of fuzzy woodsy notes. It fits in with the other Ariana Grande fragrances.
But the sweetness takes the backseat after a while and the other notes come out. The fuzziness might be from cashmeran. Additionally I get a lot of creamy white musk, citrus and a touch of fresh, green vetiver.
This scent gets compared to Byredo Bal d'Afrique, and I absolutely get it. Pink Woods smells like the candy-infused girly girl version of it. I love Bal d'Afrique and I also love sweet scents, so it's no surprise I am a fan of this, too.
Funnily I always found Bal d'Afrique pineapple-esque, but don't get that here. Maybe it's the absence of BdA's lemon note in combination with the amped-up sweetness.
To my nose the Byredo feels a little more refined, which it should at that price, but this is more fun, so both have their merits.
I hope the whole Lovenotes collection will become internationally available eventually. Having regionally limited fragrances was always a bit of an annoying move, but in recent times it's getting even more inconvenient.
