Elegant freshness
A lemon garden, with flowers and fruits. The scent invigorates and cheers you up. It starts with the products for the bathroom and is completed with the eau de toilette. A fragrance of elegance that gives a fresh note with restraint. Pleased to meet you.

Purple lemons?
Also because the fragrance translates purple means water, it is primarily lemons that set the tone here - and that is extremely dominant.

After all, Alberto Morillas, who is very much in demand and industrious, is known here on Parfumo for his more than 300 perfumes, especially for his very fresh fragrances. Like me, most people will associate him with Acqua di Giò by Armani.

And Purple Water also digs into this deep notch, which turns out to be a very refreshing citric aqua scent with slightly fruity as well as strong floral notes. Sprayed on paper, the nuances develop somewhat finer, so that the individual ingredients can be better filtered out. Finally, basil makes its summery fresh contribution to Purple Water as well as a restrained but recognizable trace of ginger.

At my limits I come across Jacaranda, which is because I know this only from hearsay. In the middle of the 70s there was a pop band called Sailor who had such smashing and world-famous smash hits like "Glass of Champagne" or "Girls, Girls, Girls". After that, they had already passed their zenith. Strangely enough, the third title I remember is "Jacaranda", almost completely unknown and insignificant, the meaning of which I had never thought about for over forty years.

Whatever that may be, today I know that Jacaranda is a kind of trumpet belly plant or rosewood tree, whose blossoms are purple and probably supposed to reflect the purple of this water. I guess it'll have the scent of some kind of white-flowered stamp on the whole thing.

I myself assumed that lavender and violets would have been the main ingredients of the Purple perfume. But as already mentioned above, this is a citric newbie with a few relatively inconspicuous nice extras, which is more than welcome especially at temperatures above 30°C.

Elegance And Comfort For The Warmer Seaons
One could say that the classic Eau de Colognes are all more or less the same – however, I cannot resist if I come across a really good one. My collection of these type of fragrances has been growing alarmingly, although, two of them should be enough: one more on the bergamotte or lemony side, and one more on the orange or neroli side.

Anyway, Asprey's Purple Water is one of the best. To be honest, I do not see what is “purple” about it, nor do I get any “jacaranda” in the head notes (I suppose this should be something woodsy). Instead, Purple Water is almost the classic Eau de Cologne, with a good balance between neroli and lemon, and an only slightly musky background. I cannot discriminate the vetiver or the herbs. These notes might add a piquante touch to it without standing out by themselves.

What else can be said about a fragrance which is nearly a role model for all similar fragrances? Purple Water is not as soft as Guerlain's Eau Imperiale and also Eau de Coq. It may be a bit more refined as the Artisan fragrances by John Varvatos, and the musk in it is discreet enough to avoid any images of laundry.

But it is only almost a classic Eau de Cologne: the one thing that sets this fragrance apart is that it has already Eau de Toilette strength. Whereas some of the other fragrances mentioned fade away in an hour or so, Purple Water stays considerably longer with me. I'd say that this can be seen as an advantage for those who are used to long-lasting fragrances.

Recommendable? For sure – maybe especially for those who are looking for a rather typical Eau de Cologne fragrance. I like the corrugated glass flacon, it is nice to touch or hold it in one's hand. Asprey's Purple Water would be a nice gift – you will be on the safe side with it.

Hot Weather Ready Citrus Aromatic Cologne
Asprey PURPLE WATER is neither a lavender nor an iris fragrance, as one might quite naturally surmise from its appearance and name. Nor is PURPLE WATER a cousin to ALIEN, ANGEL, and other quasi-fermented grape jelly concoctions.

Instead, this is a beautiful citrus aromatic composition with perfectly measured components all of which mix together harmoniously to produce a pleasing hot weather cologne. Lemon, ginger, basil, pepper, and vetiver are the most important notes, but there is also a touch of florality and musk.

PURPLE WATER is neither a feminine nor a masculine scent, just a high quality mélange of lightly aromatic notes which leave a clean slightly herbal trail behind. I tested this fragrance on a day with extreme weather, 94F + major humidity, and it held up very well.
