Mesmerize Avon 1992 Cologne

I love this perfume, and I hate that the original formula is discontinued. (Avon seems to discontinue all of my favourites though). It can be procured from Ebay, charity shops and the like easily enough though. It's far better than the average Avon offering. I even think the bottle is really pretty. As much as I like Avon, their bottles often leave something to be desired.

Mesmerize is very sweet, but the woody and amber notes keep it from being cloying, and it's quite sophisticated. Oddly, I always smell vanilla in this, but it's not listed amongst the notes. It's got above average sillage, so a little goes a long way.

P.S. I've just tried the new formulation of this, and it's a shadow of its former self. Please try to find the original formula if you can.

They really nailed it at Avon. Cheeky red apples, Adam and Eve in paradise.... what followed, we have known for more than 2000 years.
But what follows in this fragrance, fragrance lovers who use it have only known for about 30 years: That in the wake of apples and oranges, there are other, almost balsamic-resinous seductions wandering. Always a step behind. And every time the "neon sign" APPLES briefly lights up, a very long sequence of the after-scent of myrrh comes into play. It oscillates between sweet and slightly bitter, also taking along a hint of amber on its journey and not skimping on very good longevity and a scent trail that the perfume drags behind it.
In the spirit of the "lady" that this Avon classic aims to awaken in its wearer. Or the feminine aspect in its male wearers.
Mesmerize also cannot hide a glamour factor reminiscent of the disco queen/disco king of the early 1990s. To my nose, the fragrance is not quite suitable for everyday wear; in my opinion, it should be reserved for nights out, as it does represent quite "strong tobacco."
