A Juicy Melon on the Beach of Amalfi

Imagine biting into a cold, juicy-sweet honeydew melon while sitting with your feet in the water by the pool, the sun warming your skin. That's exactly how Aura of Amalfi smells.

I have tested several fragrances from Birkholz. Some completely captivated me (Royal Amber, Nights in Noto, Portraits of Portofino), while others were not really my thing (Bordeaux, Corsica). Now, here’s another fresh-fruity scent from the Italian Collection. For those who know Portraits of Portofino: take out the citrus and replace it with juicy-sweet melon. Add the somewhat unpleasant fresh synthetic note from Corsica, and you have the new fragrance. I especially find the opening really great; the melon is incredibly intense and well-executed. Then the fresh note takes over … and holds … and holds … and holds. One spray on the test strip and I can still smell it next to me two days later. For a freshie, that’s brutal. However, I somehow get headaches from the note over time, similar to Corsica or Fico di Amalfi?

Overall, I tend towards Portraits of Portofino, which seems less synthetic to me in the long run. Nevertheless, a great release, just at the wrong time of year. The fragrance needs 30 degrees and sunshine!

Thanks for the details. It sounds appealing, anyway.

I actually find the chosen release time a bit strange.
Both are scents that I would definitely wear in summer... good thing I still have a trip to Thailand ahead of me.
