Powdery Violet, Jasmine and Wood in an Ephemeral Swirl
Boadicea the Victorious DIVINE opens with powdery violets and jasmine and ends with more of the same plus a touch of wood. Small wonder, then, that to me, a certified violet-"'ho'", DIVINE is truly DIVINE!

In the interest of truth in sniffin', however, I should explain that you really have to work hard, I mean really make a mess of things (I'm talkin' to you, O "Insolent" Creator) in order for me to reject a violet perfume.

Happily, no such problem here. DIVINE is oh-so-fine. My only regret is that the staying power is oh-so-unimpressive. I blew through my 2.5ml decant in no time!

Unisex is a Misstep Here
I really can't imagine Divine on men's skin, and therefore I see the comments from Apicius and Ergoproxy as out of competition.

I strike the same chord as Lolita, because this is one of the most beautiful clean scents I have ever had under my nose. White flowers are used subtly, but brought to life by the aldehydes, conveying purity on the verge of germ-free. The scent development gradually fades away without any major twists, and the longevity on my skin is satisfactory.

As a wearer of this perfume, I envision someone like Grace Kelly or Tipi Hedren. One wears pearls instead of gaudy jewelry, and a twinset instead of a glamorous top; and anyone expecting this to be boring is mistaken, because the pearls are of course real and the twinset is made of the finest cashmere. This is luxury without having to flaunt a label, a scent for insiders. The others get Habanita...

Divine will only be perceived as boring by those who are looking for a dose of eroticism or provocation in a perfume. The scent does indeed come across as somewhat cool, but that does not detract from its beauty for me.

Wash your mouths out!!
Two contemptuous comments. Pah! This soap deserves more attention.
Yes, soap, Senta Berger soap? No. Because it’s not that old-fashioned at all.

Chanel-like aldehydes + jasmine. No fruit. No floral penetration, because a proper swirl of powder envelops the whole thing exquisitely and masterfully rounds off sharp edges.

Almond, heliotrope, a hint of Teint De Neige. Fine, light soap powder snow. Fresh, rebellious, morning-tumbling, smooth, fluffy-powdery.

Soap, that.
It doesn’t hurt you.

Matter of Opinion
Well, such a perfume is something you have to like, and whether this perfume is truly divine can also be a matter of differing opinions.

The opening is dangerously close to being overwhelming, but it manages to curve back to something bearable just in time. Here, the scent comes across as strangely fruity and somewhat fermentative.

The floral note has an antiquated touch that I actually quite like.

In the base, Divine loses a bit of its charm again, as the blend of wood and sweetness combined with the floral remnants feels somewhat cumbersome and eventually gets on my nerves over time.

For me, this scent is unsuitable, and I don't find it divine either. But I've had to endure much worse in my fragrance life, so it lands in the middle for me.

It's best to test it for yourself!

No, thank you!
So far, Boadicea the Victorious has impressed me with every fragrance, but here comes the exception: Divine, also known as Lux Soap. Who doesn't remember that dreadful 70s advertisement, where Senta Berger, with a purchased smile and graceful, ladylike demeanor, suggested to the astonished audience the effects of Lux soap on her skin?

And now this - I can fully endorse the already mentioned Lux association. Divine is a soap fragrance of the worst kind. Whether jasmine actually breaks through after 1 hour, I don't even want to try. Yuck, it is sharp and penetrating and produces a relentless cloud of scent. Even Senta Berger would buckle under this.

Once again, I am astonished to note that the fragrance direction "soap" sells. On the other hand, I would have been surprised if a brand as extensively established as Boadicea the Victorious had not catered to this perverse fragrance direction.

Terrible what people are capable of!

Soap and clean. It is an innocent perfume, little powdery. Save for everybody who loves soapy perfumes.

Too feminine, too floral, too soapy. The longevity is really good and the sillage is okay. Clean "woman".

Quite dark and bitter floral soap.
Maybe not "divine," but definitely "outstanding."
Distinct, mature, refined.
Liquid elegance!

Divine sandalwood, seductively light. Warm and noble. I don't smell any white flowers at all. Luckily, no soap either. (AugustA)
