Vanilla & spice & everything nice
I love vanilla in almost all forms, and I especially have a soft spot for green, woodsy, spicy vanillas. Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée is one of my go-to fragrances for colder days. The mix of sweetness and herbaceous notes just works for me.
So it's really no surprise that I enjoy Vanilla Black Pepper, too - to my nose it's in the same family as Vanille Insensée and Diptyque Eau Duelle. Not exactly the same as either of them, but somewhere in the same ballpark. It's a very soft and fluffy vanilla that makes me think of finely powdered vanilla sugar, enhanced with woodsy accents. The black pepper note is more dry than truly spicy to me. Together with the cedar note it reminds me a bit of pencil shavings, but in a good way.
The whole composition feels soft and smooth, and frankly, a little less exciting than other woodsy and spicy vanillas. I wouldn't go so far and call it boring, I actually find it quite enjoyable. I just wouldn't chose it when I can have my dear old Vanille Insensée instead. I think a little more hot black pepper or stronger green vibes would have made this even better.
