Champaca oud
Among the best ouds of Dmitryj - "Excellent Hour" was never for me in the top three of his OUD perfumes, because ... it is not a typical "monster of oud".

The perfume is so well blended and with so many different notes that it was hard for me to describe it as an oud perfume. In the very sound as a whole, in my opinion, they are closer to some fragrances created by Prin Lomros and his works in which he perfectly used
some flowers. Dmitryj, like Prin, indirectly performs for me almost a ritual like in a Buddhist temple, enhancing the scent of Far Eastern magnolias - champaca. Maybe these flowers actually cause spiritual enlightenment…who knows.
Due to the variety of ingredients and their perfect mix, it is very hard for me to catch half of these ingredients. The very beginning is easy citrus and fresh, to attack after a while with floral notes with a very large component of white champaca flowers, mixed with wood and balsamic-cocoa oud. In the smell, I also sense a lot of green and sweet-resin notes, which may come from resins or ambergris.

It is definitely a multi-dimensional perfume and hard for me to classify due to the large variety of ingredients and their great mixing. I had a similar experience with another fragrance by Dmitry - Coup de Foudre. Lasts about 8 hours

Indonesian and Vietnamese oud in harmony
Ten days no comment from me, I let up and then once again a sober comment, hard to believe. Nothing with Ruhrpottromantik. Just as unlikely as the fact that a Bortnikoff fragrance could please me. So far, nothing from this house has convinced me, but now I've ordered another six different bottlings to be sure. In the meantime I trust myself to be able to distinguish between ouds and to better classify, even enjoy them. New conditions, new results? Indeed, yes, I like L'Heure Exquise a lot and that is also due to the selection and the origin of the ouds used here. But let's start first:

If you read through the statements to this fragrance, so you can not get past "cocoa". Sure, it's listed as an ingredient here and some ouds smell like dry cocoa. Still, an oud of this type is not to be imagined here. Once applied, a floral-green aura envelops the oud, which here seems rather damp-woody, like wet forest floor, like dew dripping leaves. For me, this green aura goes back to the champaka used, which I find beguilingly floral. But also the cardamom is clearly in focus at the beginning because the oud is enveloped menthol-like and that must be due to the cardamom. Cardamom can have olfactory properties reminiscent of eucalyptus for example. This already seems strong but L'Heure Exquise is incredibly multifaceted and smells completely different as it progresses.

Personally, I don't like every oud, in fact I pay a lot of attention to the regions. Indonesian oud, Borneo oud, that suits me because Indonesian oud is - let's say - more light-footed on the road. A bit floral, a bit sweet, gently resinous; that's how I would describe it. Vietnamese oud is not so common - in relation to other oud origins. To me, the Vietnamese oud adds a creamy, milky, veiling nuance to the resin, garnished with a bitter-woody note that is so rarely experienced. The combination is well balanced, there is little to complain about here. What I want to say: two of my favorite ouds were used here.

Now L'Heure Exquise changes as it progresses, the cardamom disappears and the cocoa settles over the scent like a fine, somewhat sweetening mist. The oud from the two countries is sometimes attributed a sweet component and the resin now acts quite exactly so, is never dry but always remains sultry, moist and attractive.

Bortnikoff has shown with this fragrance that not every creation from the house is nothing for me. On the one hand, beautiful ouds were used here for me, on the other hand, the selection of the floral entourage is successful because beguiling, heavy (excellent counter the light oud) and harmonious. The cardamom would not have been necessary as some moments contain too much of this ingredient, others seem exactly balanced. Still, the cool and refreshing green oud phase is exciting and beautiful. That has its price but I do not rate.

Chocolate site
L' Heure Exquise had been on my watch list for quite some time, so it was all the more pleasing that I got a sample with my last order... :-)

Immediately after spraying on, I am met by a clenched load of dark cocoa, not sweet, but rather dusty and bitter.... a mixture of unsharp and rather dull spices also resonates and I think I smelled aniseed for a short time...?

All very well matched, chocolate-unsweet, dark spicy and a little dry ...

A short time later gently floral tones of jasmine and champaka follow, which bring a wonderful floral twist into it...
But the scent is by no means to be described as floral... he just gets a gentle touch of it with...

In the background a few citrus sprinkles are gently swinging, but this really only very discreetly...

In the later course, smooth oud tones finely round off the composition and give the fragrance a stable hold...

All in all, I would describe the scent as unsweet chocolaty spicy... not quite new, yet beautiful and also well wearable in everyday life. The two oud variations used are kept rather quiet and discreet, absolutely not dirty or ferkelig, which could make the scent interesting for people without a special oud love...

But for me the scent is a little bit too quiet and not enough "indecent"... I would have hoped for a little more mess...
