Hail the new king.
I wasn’t sure, I was torn between Le Gemme - Tygar Eau de Parfum and Le Gemme - Tygar Extrait de Parfum. Certainly I prefer the opening of Le Gemme - Tygar Eau de Parfum for around four or five minutes but it does fade and settle to a more gentle scent and in the heat it goes after six hours or so which is probably fine really.

Mainly I love to enjoy the scent I’m wearing. I wear it for me and I especially like it if my wife makes an unsolicited positive comment.

Laughably sometimes if really like a fragrance I’m testing I’ll try to waft the scent her way to get a reaction. Le Gemme - Tygar Extrait de Parfum was one such hit.
So I have purchased this one which will be great not only for summer but spring and warmer autumn too.

I tried Turathi (Blue) last summer and also Belgravia Iris more recently. I found with those the woody note was too strong. It was just not right. Something was just a bit off.

With Le Gemme - Tygar Extrait de Parfum I found that woody note has a really good soft citrus edge to it keeping it fresh stopping it becoming dry.
It is a bit more of a niche take on the idea I think most casual buyers would pick Le Gemme - Tygar Eau de Parfum just because it’s so mass appealing. Then again none of those people are spending this kind of money of money.

The scent here does have some complexity too. The main thing I noted was that I loved the smell in the air around me out walking and at work in the air conditioned office it was just a lovely manly scent. One of the team even commented which was nice (isn’t it always).
It is way too expensive 60ml was all I was willing to pay for and I got it 15% off which got me to a price which is still too much but one I feel a bit happier to pay.
This one does push off my skin nicely which regular Tygar didn’t. I also noticed the scent all day from spraying on around 10am through to around 8pm. Probably because I got changed.

So buy if you are looking for an alternative or just want something a bit darker and longer lasting. I’m still probably going to buy regular Tygar at some point.

Do I love it?
Yes. Bottle purchased.

My Tygar has gone flat :(
TLDR; This smells suspiciously similar to Turathi (Blue) , it looses the sparkle the OG Le Gemme - Tygar Eau de Parfum had and traded it in for some extra spice/patchouli...disappointing, like a flat drink.

It opens with that trademark Grapefruit we all know and love, along with a spicy kick (that is a bit sweeter than I expected) followed right on time by the amber backbone...but hold on, something is missing in this opening...there's no sparkle!!?! ██THIS IS TREASON██

I understand this is flanking Tygar, but it messed up by choosing to mute the OG's best aspect, the sparkle factor! I could forgive it if Tygar Extrait was meant to be a darker fragrance built for winter, but it just isn't, Extrait is still trying to be a freshie. It just feels...confused.

In the drydown Extrait turns up the sweetness and throws in a balsamic twist, I picture this is because of the ginger and peru balsam (+ maybe a touch of patchouli) playing a bigger role here. These notes last for a long time, so Extrait's one saving grace is has good performance. But I personally don't enjoy this kind of drydown, I much prefer the sharpness of the original's clean ambergris.

Extrait looses the sparkle of the OG's opening and the focus of the OG's drydown. It smells suspiciously similar to Turathi Blue, and Turthai Blue NOT a good clone of Tygar. Bvlgari is cloning the clone >>> Clone²

The OG Le Gemme - Tygar Eau de Parfum wins, easily.

Endgame of this DNA
Le Gemme - Tygar Eau de Parfum was the original, and there came many copies and even improvements. JCB himself created another take on it in L'Immensité. So far my favorite of the DNA was Vibrato but I think Tygar Extrait has dethroned it, at least for me.

It opens with the classic grapefruit/ginger, but a bit sweetened and candied which I didn't really get in Tygar EDP. The grapefruit note has a lot of depth, like at first you bit into the juicy flesh then are smelling the bitter rind. A bit of woodiness accompanies the grapefruit note a few minutes after spraying, and it stays pretty consistent throughout its lifetime in this mode, with the ambroxan as a fixative carrying the top and mid notes for a long while. The drydown has a nice ambery depth to it as well that makes this scent even more versatile than, say, Vibrato, which I think is mostly a spring/summer scent.

It seems to me that Tygar Extrait has absorbed facets of its competitors and added a deeper, darker resinous/ambery base. One of the main things I liked about Vibrato was the added bit of slight sweetness that accompanies the grapefruit/ginger opening and Tygar Extrait has incorporated that, but without the powderiness that Vibrato has. And I feel like it burns off a bit quicker and gets to the classy drydown faster. It also doesn't really have the orange blossom feel of Tygar EDP, which for me is a good thing, but others might miss it. I think the drydown is superior to any of the others in the DNA; I sprayed Vibrato on my other arm and it seemed trite and pedestrian in comparison to the depth Tygar Extrait has.

It's pricier than it should be, and the materials don't reflect that. It is composed beautifully but it is not complex or challenging. It just smells damn good though. I've put it on my wishlist, and I hope it gets a wider release because I'd rather not pay a tariff to get it shipped from England on top of the already ridiculous price.

A more rounded, based out formula, This is Tygar all grown up. The peru balsam adds a nice touch. Performance is also much better.

Very addictive! Starts off citrusy then turns into smoky upclose and smoky citrus in the air, and definitely more masculine than the OG

The opening has a dense smoked lemon similar to Auris. The freshness of the original isn’t there. Interesting but in its own realm.
