Alto Astral Byredo 2025 Eau de Parfum

I'm so surprised by some of the reviews on this one. Firstly, the performance is outstanding for me--easily 10 hours with a gorgeous sillage that's still subtle.

Secondly, I don't know how people are getting laundry, pineapple, or whatever else. This is, to me, a linear and gorgeous fresh coconut--not sunscreeny or sickly-sweet, but airy and softly sweet. If I put my nose to my skin, the scent is very aldehydic and perfumes--the magic is in the scent bubble, which remains beautifully sot and sweet and airy all day long. I have trouble detecting any individual notes besides the coconut water, though it does have that sparkling character many aldehydic scents have.

I would be thrilled if this one remains just popular enough to not be discontinued, but not as popular as Byredo's big names. It feels tailor-made for me, and I've been wearing it almost every day for the last two months. If it became omnipresent I would be a tiny bit annoyed (but I wouldn't stop wearing it!)

A rare squeaky-clean amber. An aldebrox? An ambrohyde? Fresh laundry, coconut water, and a fuzzy, dulcet musk. The coconut is raw, freshly cracked. Nothing reminiscent of sunscreen or body butter, and unfortunately only lasts the opening hour. However, its sparkly, spun-sugar heart hit 6+ hours on skin. Recommend testing on different substrates, as I found it a bit of a personality splitter between skin (hella ambroxy), paper (hella aldehydey), and fabric (just right). Overall, smells remarkably akin to the Bal d’Afrique Absolu, in that same sweet-n'-clean family. A great option for those who might have found Blanche too sterile or Baccarat too sticky.

Mental Snapshot: A celestial laundromat. Dirty clothes go in the machine, white cashmere and golden chiffon comes out. One of the spin cycles is called “candyfloss.” You are pleased to find the iridescent bubbles drifting from your wash are made of helium and glass candy.

tl;dr: Laundromat Rouge 540

This is a very interesting fragrance from Byredo and also amazing. First whiffs smells like a milky sophisticated pina colada that is sweet with a hint of pineapple, even though it’s not in the fragrance notes. It’s creamy and sweet with the coconut water, I usually detest coconut perfumes because they give this sunscreen scent but not this one. Has to be the first coconut perfume that I enjoy. I feel like this is what Blanche Bette should have been and how I imagined it would smell like. I love this, great for warmer months, but would be interested in wearing it in cooler temperatures too as it’s so cosy. Give it time to develop and test it, it’s truly lovely!

This is an interesting one. I am a Byredo fan, that is obvious. I think they get a bad rep and Ive not understood why. The consensus seems to be that their fragrances are not very good performers and have poor longevity, but I own two - this one and Animalique and I get 5-6+ hours out of both without a problem.

I wonder if some folks mistake a fade in the drydown, a characteristic softening that every single Byredo Ive ever tried does, for a fade away. To my nose, they do the former but not the latter.

Alto Astral is such a beautiful scent. It is fragile and precious, understated but with its own innate power. Unlike the Animalique this isnt a heavy hitter right from the first sniff, but retains a nicely evolving strength as it continues. I am not a fan of coconut fragrances on me and was initially skeptical on this after seeing the accord notes but having tried it, it is gorgeous. The coconut is not cloying or sweet and this doesnt smell of bad tanning oil as I find a lot of coconut frags do to my nose. The most powerful notes here are the cashmere, jasmine and woody notes and these are never too sweet or overpowering.

I love how it gets more musky in the drydown. Ive had it on six hours and I cannot stop smelling myself. I would rate this as leaning more masculine but I can see why it would work for a woman as well.

I think this is low key an absolute beast of an office frag. It's not an Aventus or BR540, but it has a nice sophistication-without-shouting, not brash projection but it'll project nicely in the office or lift. Sillage is subtle but as with Animalique, if you want a statement smell that everyone in the building knows you are wearing long after you've driven home, then we all have a go-to for that and that isnt this.

Fresh, watery coconut up top, followed by a LOT of sandalwood, plus that familiar aromachemicals trio: Ambrox, ISO E Super, cashmeran, and friends. The dry-down leans heavily synthetic on my skin and even picks up a slightly chlorine-like undertone. Almost like you put on coconut sunscreen, jumped into a chlorinated pool, all while wearing a sandalwood-heavy perfume.

Think Santal 33 Eau de Parfum, but less salty and thankfully no pickle jar moment. Still, I’ve fully mistaken this for Santal 33 on people before... only to think, “Huh, why does Santal 33 smell… nicer today?”

It projects strongly and works well as an everyday scent. If you’re a clean perfume lover, into Glossier You or Another 13, but wish they came with extra coconut and a hefty sandalwood backbone, this one’s for you. It’s slightly salty, but not aggressively so.

Honestly, I can see this becoming a mainstream hit for Byredo: easy, wearable, modern, and very “effortlessly expensive.” Love it or side-eye the synthetic dry-down, it’s definitely going to be everywhere.
