Tropical rainforests worldwide are pretty diverse but share several defining characteristics, including climate, precipitation, canopy structure, complex symbiotic relationships, and species diversity. An essential aspect of rainforests is apparent in their name. Rainforests lie in the intertropical convergence zone, where intense solar energy produces a convection zone of rising air that loses its moisture through frequent rainstorms. Rainforests are subject to heavy rainfall. Even in seasonal forests, the period between rains is usually not long enough for the leaf litter to dry out completely. During the parts of the year, when less rain falls, the constant cloud cover is enough to keep the air moist and prevent plants from drying out. I can't help but relate this smell to the air after a rainfall. There's a powerful ozonic effect that smells like rain, waterfalls, and rainforest.
This is my second bottle. I bought the former when the cologne was released and the current one a few years ago. It is fresh and uplifting, teal and modern, not including ambroxan. It's a simple, linear perfume, which is highly pleasant if you look for a lighter scent. Also, something unique. Nothing else in the world can be like this. At least I haven't run into a similar fragrance yet. Compared to the other CK fragrances, Truth is closer to
CK One Eau de Toilette and far from
Obsession for Men Eau de Toilette and stands out as a less sweet, more refined smell than CK's other offerings. There is also a smell to
Truth Eau de Parfum for Women, but it's more of a lush meadow with some flowers.
Truth unfurls greenish, refreshing, and aqueous, like wet fern after a storm, bamboo core, or cut grass with a minty accent. The initial blast is terrific, and I think the juice's colour is just right, a pale green. We are facing a contemporary fougère, very green, luxuriant. Those first breezes of late summer mornings, those first rains of spring evoke a sense of melancholy. The opening comprises aromatic notes of stunning tea leaves, the slightly minty cardamom, and tons of crispy green foliage. It's so fresh and rainy with hints of sourness, yet no citrus or zesty nuance.
Green, very green and moist, a very intense and pleasant aroma that grows and softens a bit, leaving room in the heart for a charming smooth combo of herbs and grass. The soft warmth of the cardamom softens the aromatic basil, and these two notes blend with the indolic light and sweet jasmine. I get wet fern leaves wrapped in some resins. Imagine walking into the greenest forest you can think of after a few days of thunderstorms, and then the scorching sun comes out, and it's high at noon, eagerly searching for every drop of moisture on every piece of green foliage.
The dry-down ends with a mild muskiness and reminds me of the lush vegetation of tropical forests in the morning after a nightly rain, damp earth, sandalwood vapour mixed with cedar and resinous super clean patchouli. There is freshly cut grass and a mound of lush wet driftwood. The cedar is there but in a more background way and never overpowers our green stuff. Reasonably linear, this dry-down is soothing and lasts long, despite remaining relatively close to the skin.
Truth is a surprising and attractive fragrance. It calms my busy day and relaxes my mind and nerves, putting me in a state of peace and harmony. A real magic potion for me! If you smell it on someone else, it could be much stronger than you can feel it on yourself if you missed it. It has a very moist, musky, sweet smell. Great fragrance, best for early spring and summer days. This scent is also lovely for a rainy day in those seasons. Truth is a pretty flexible scent, but the rainy season matches the effect and mood. It is wearable for daily informal activities such as doing sports, shopping, and leisure. And I use it for wearing in the office or at informal parties but could be used in the evenings at a bar or on a date. This is the most underrated fragrance in my collection. Truth is my go-to bottle whenever I'm looking for something uncomplicated. Like I said before, it's a grassy and woody fragrance but still has a subtle heart note of spice that lasts the longest.
I base the review on a 100ml bottle I have owned since October 2015.
