Vegan, gluten-free? Do these terms have a negative connotation for you? Why? The way you use them here suggests that you associate these two words with a loss of quality, or at least a decline? And what about the E numbers? What do they have to do with the perfume? Dyes have been included in almost all perfumes for decades. But not the ones you mentioned, at least not in Montaigne. Metaphors in perfume descriptions can be beautiful, but here I find them quite judgmental and narrow-minded. I apologize if I've misunderstood any connections here.

Oops, just discovered this: Vegan and gluten-free are certainly desirable categories because they make life easier for people with specific dietary needs - and that's definitely a great thing. However, these classifications don't automatically make a product high-quality or healthy. It can still contain harmful ingredients like the mentioned E-numbers.
In the case of the current Montaigne, I feel the same way. Artificially sweet sandalwood pudding isn't automatically high-quality just because "Caron" is on the bottle. The house can do better.

I first read "cream pudding." Compared to that, a sandalwood pudding sounds pretty good :)

I still have quite a few from this Caron series lying around here... I’d probably be too disappointed if I compared them to the vintages...

They just need to give the scent a new name. Then there wouldn't be any comparisons.

Well, I think it's important to let each fragrance stand on its own and give it a chance for what it is. So, a direct comparison isn't entirely fair. But I have to say, I generally don't like the direction Caron is taking...

Hm. The daffodil that I noticed in the 2007 version seems to be gone, and the mimosa is struggling so pitifully that my gardener's heart is bleeding. The creaminess comes from a strangely greasy sandalwood, and I find the thick, sweet-resinous base quite overwhelming without a slightly spicy-bitter counterpart. I'm rating it a bit more favorably than my first impulse suggests because I tested it directly against the 2007 version, and that probably isn't entirely fair.
