Citric Rose
Creed says the scent was inspired by a 1927 dance that Isadora Duncan performed on the Amalfi Coast where citrus, woods, apple and florals scent the air. What I remember about Isadora Duncan is the long scarves she wore around her long neck and how she died dramatically in Nice when one caught in the open wheels of her sportscar and strangled her, killing her instantly that same year. At that point, her equally dramatic life was in the kind of glamorous turmoil befitting an eccentric bohemian, an innovative dancer, atheist, feminist, Darwinist and a communist like Isadora. She lost her American citizenship for the last one and, afterward, took to wearing red scarves to announce her communism. One of them killed her. Jardins d'Amalfi is a fitting tribute to such a gifted and unconvential woman. The citric top note is unexpectedly spectacular, tangerine the first thing I smell. Not sure which pink berry is lending a slight fruitiness to the top (per Creed boutique notes), but Neroli and Bergamot are subtly and beautifully there. Rose rises from the heart, freshened by apple and barely detectable Cedar...a hint of wood from fresh fruit on a chopping board. I am awed by the base. Vetiver, white musk and cinnamon? Together these notes create an inviting perfume that does conjure the airy terraces on which fruit, vegetables and flowers grow everywhere along this famous coast. Pleasantly strong at first, it fades after about 6 hours. No problem to reapply and smell the fragrant Amalfi outdoors again.
