Beach Deserts ...Carmelized Sugar and on a Toasted Coconut Plate
I am not going to launch into the whole philosophy behind Demeter single note scents. They are wearable, inexpensive and when you want to smell, very specifically like Watermelon Jollyranchers, Lobster, A Crust of Bread, Pruning Shears, Fire Flies, Church Incense, Hot Toddy or Dirt--- this is the best collection for that niche. These are low risk and great for experimenting/layering...although they never satisfy my deeper need for Art Bottles and Niche fragrances- they do come in handy at times...need your house to smell of fresh baked breads, yummy tea time treats and an English garden? Demeter's Earl Grey tea, Gingerbread cookie, Lavender, Greenhouse and Ivy will weave a delicate ol'factory extravaganza that will fool all your guests!
So, Saltwater Taffy was something I didn't order or request that just showed up in my last order from Demeter and in spite of all that, I find it noteworthy. It is obviously sweet and I must say, I am not a fan of cloying sweet fragrances in general. In spite of this... I find Saltwater Taffy is wearable and even alluring because the dry down is a fairly believable toasted coconut and buttery powder cloud. I personally wouldn't pay much more than free for this time of composition, but since it was free...I am going to wear this this summer and enjoy it as I enjoy cotton candy, ice cream and roller skating in the Summer but never really admit it to any one else.
What do I detect in this bottle? Toasted coconut cream pie (an edible note as opposed to a synthetic suntan lotion coconut) an carmelized spun sugar note- that is subtle-not overwhelming or nauseating and a salt air note that is again, not too synthetic of over-the-top salty so it never veers into "Low Tide by the sea shore" territory. Overall- surprisingly good for layering and I am definitely going to wear it this summer. Strictly for Cooney Island and Boardwalk fun, but...Give it a try!
