Sauvage Extrait Dior 2026

Let's jump straight into the juicy stuff...
The opening of Extrait hits you with a charred lavender overload - an immediate, heavy-handed flashback to Elixir - backed by a familiar ambroxan burn, sharp citrus, and a peppery bite perhaps propagating from the Vietnamese oud.

Give it 20 minutes. The initial blast dissipates, but the lavender stubbornly sticks around as integral part of the dark, smoked woody accord that will progressively take over, flanked by a slightly metallic incense semblance.
Around the 45-minute mark, a mildly green, dry licorice emerges. I can see a reference to the Royal Tobacco territory, just here it is mercifully less candied.
An hour in, we're wading through dry cedar and sandalwood. It borrows the abrasive sandalwood base from Oud Zarian, though I'll concede (again) it’s better executed here since it isn't mindlessly potent.
By hour two, the ride is basically over, leaving you holding the bag with a standard Sauvage lavender and sandalwood base. Fast forward five hours: the woods timdly tap out, leaving a blurred, leathery, and earthy oud ghost on the skin.

Performance is standard fare for an extrait, so as expected... 8 to 10 hours of moderate projection, lingering as a faint skin scent up to 12-16 hours.

Ultimately, this isn't Demachy-era innovation.
It's neither Kurky's meme alter ego dropping shitter releases like Dior Homme Parfum 2024, nor Kurkdjian actually being a genius and releasing stuff like Sausage Eau Forte.
I feel that this is a paint-by-numbers corporate flanker built specifically to spar with Bleu de Chanel l’Expensif... the pricing is pretty much identical.
Sauvage Extrait does exactly what a textbook flanker is paid to do: plug a market gap and align with the competition. No more, no less.

Overall not bad but to me it is just blurred, uninspired, and perfectly "okay". I'd save my money, but you do you. Bottom line, Elixir is still solidly the best of the line.

And then suddenly… there was the Extrait.

Scent wise it is pretty close to the famous Elixir. And that’s already been copied into oblivion. So honestly I don’t see any point of this release.

For me it falls into the category non-detectable oud. It says there’s some in here but I don’t find any woody oudy component. Not that it’s a bad thing though, I just find it misleading to have that note listed with an accompanying high price. What is expected is the lavender in abundance, I love that. It’s what I love about the whole Sauvage line.

I find the Extrait not as loud as the Elixir. Just the first hour or so it projects like crazy, but either noseblindness kicks in soon after or it’s actually retreating already. What comes next is that saffron-like Baccarat Rouge drydown. Or could it be the ambroxan? I don’t know but I’m not a fan of that.

Ultimately I don’t hate it, but there are cheaper alternatives. They are better and cheaper, even in Dior’s own line.

Don’t trust anyone who says this is niche quality.

Opens with a blast of dry, austere black pepper, reminiscent of Poivre Noir, but buoyed with a bombastic dose of ambroxan. Soon one perceives the heart, which is a rather tame oud that lends the whole experience an added air of sophistication and intrigue. All of this is scaffolded by base of deep, green, woods. Unlike with Sauvage Elixir, there is no sweetness to be found here.

When I went to sample this at Sephora, I approached the big Sauvage display, where about 5 young teenage boys had gathered. I was surprised to find that it wasn’t there. Instead, it was placed in the main Dior section, accompanied by little to no fanfare. The only sign heralding its arrival was a little placard reading “New.”

After sampling a spray, I was inspired to inform the teens about the release, who were busy literally slathering themselves in Sauvage Eau de Toilette—like, I’m dead serious, they were spraying their forearms and then using them to wipe their entire bodies including their faces. Anyway.

I said to them, “Hey guys, you know there’s a new one right? It just came out like two days ago.” They all perked up in excitement and walked over to the Dior area. They had trouble finding it - it blends in with the rest of the many Sauvages. “Is this it?” one of them asked, pointing to Eau Sauvage Eau de Toilette. The security attendant that had been quietly observing them pointed it out for them. A couple of them tried spraying it.

“It’s strong,” one said. “I like it,” said another. Five or ten seconds later, they dispersed, returning to the Bad Boy Eau de Toilette and Guilty pour Homme Eau de Toilette sections, or to the big Sauvage display from whence they had come.

As I was leaving, I heard one of the kids say to his friend “eh, I like the old one more.”

Enjoying my first spray after opening the box up. Beautiful ambery, woody scent, with a soft sweetness to it.

As one of those people with > 100 bottles, anytime I pick something up or smell something, the test becomes would I buy it or buy it again if I didn't have it. After all, it takes a lot to become a worthy addition to a big collection. This one clears for me, and in a way that Sauvage Elixer didn't for me.

Dior Sauvage Extrait tries too hard to make a bold statement but it completely falls flat under the weight of its own hype.

Rather than offering nuanced depth, the scent profile feels remarkably generic.

​Ultimately it fails to justify the premium price tag. You are left with a loud, abrasive fragrance that prioritizes raw volume over actual sophistication.
