A skin scent that could easily just be a room fragrance or a candle
Somewhere between Petit Matin and Orange Blossom lies this one. It's a pretty straightforward, linear, simple, yet lovely scent. I'm still debating whether I'd want this scent on my skin or as a room fragrance / candle.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, but it misses that sparkle, that something that makes it a skin fragrance. You've got bright, fresh bergamot with soft spoken, light and pure white florals. Beeswax offers a lovely warmth and an undertone of resinous wax (which might be the reason why I'm contemplating it as a candle). It's refreshing, easily oversprayable without much consequences, but has abyssmal performance. It becomes a skin scent not long after having first sprayed it (about an hour). I'm not sure I'm willing to pay such a price for something that is so subtle. What I did enjoy about this fragrance is that it stays on the floral, fresh side of things, never going soapy or powdery which is different from other neroli / orange flower fragrances I've smelled up until now.

If you're looking for a subtle, clean fragrance that doesn't last too long, this might be it, but for me, I think I'll be passing on it.

Fleeting Neroli Fragrance
L'Eau de Neroli by Diptyque is a fairly simplistic fragrance, both citrusy and sweet when applied to the skin. It's the kind of fragrance that I would reach for on those really hot, almost unbearable Summer days.

I adore the smell of neroli and orange blossoms during Summer, so it makes perfect sense that this fragrance should appeal to me. L'eau de Neroli is light, zesty and fresh. Really lovely when used to lighten your mood or to refresh yourself after a long, tiresome day.

I had some initial fears, particularly in regards to the opening, that the citruses would overwhelm me with their presence, but fortunately they do not. This fragrance is the perfect blend of citrus and florals. It's also a fantastic unisex fragrance, a great balance of masculine and feminine accords.

It is important to note that L'eau de Neroli only comes in the cologne concentration, meaning that it will be neither too strong nor too lasting. I'm not going to lie, this fragrance is fleeting on the skin, so it's up to the individual to decide whether or not this niche fragrance is worth the high price tag.

I doubt that I would ever buy a full bottle of L'eau de Neroli, but I would definitely consider buying the 20ml rollerball. It's easy to carry on the go, and to re-apply throughout the day. They are also the cheaper option.

Perhaps the best neroli scent out there
Smooth, effervescent and classy neroli fragrance, which is definitely worth the more than average price point. Unlike many other colognes centered around neroli this never enters astringent territory and I get insane longevity on my skin (over 6 hours). I also adore the artwork: this makes me want to lie naked in a hammock under a canopy of orange trees in blossom, all the while pensively peering at a romantic ruin in the distance, too!

The coldest, most dry neroli. But it's fleeting.
I love it. Especially in summer. For neroli lovers, it's unnecessary to feel anything other than neroli.
If Guerlain's Nerolia Vetiver is the neroli that French aristocrats had their court painters paint, this is a realistic depiction of neroli that an unknown town artist painstakingly painted.
It is the result of staring intently at neroli and trying to faithfully reproduce it, and does not focus on anything else.
As a result, it may be said to have a common scent, but it is not. It has a very high level of precision. It is almost a single note, so it is fine for people who tend to get headaches from perfume. The musk and honey are merely "elements that supplement the floral scent," and what I wanted to express is the scent of neroli flowers and the refreshing scent of orange peel. It feels like an elaborate sketch of a neroli flower has been turned into liquid. I think it is a wonderful work of art. I can feel the intention of "I want to create this kind of scent" in each stroke. It is a scent that goes beyond essential oils.
However, there is one drawback... it has a really short lifespan. It is good if it lasts for 2 hours, but in summer it may last about an hour and a half. I think I'll hold off on buying a full bottle as long as I still feel it's too expensive. (Prices aren't going to stop going up
But I really want it. I'll probably finish it in a year.

And suddenly I see the brocade doily again…
A bit of 4711 is swinging in, well, that might have been expected, but Diptyque quickly takes a turn towards the generally orangey. Verbena can be detected, not biting, but cool-fresh. Very nice! A wonderfully fresh start that can hold its own against the best in its class.

Within minutes, a hint of that soda powder note appears, which is one of several ways to extend freshness in citrus fragrances. I have finally gotten to the bottom of this note. My thanks go to Centifolia, and I quote from their response to my comment on ‘Ray of Light’: “...for example, you can achieve an extremely long-lasting citrus note with lemongrass oil, Litsea Cubeba, or verbena (or any oils that predominantly consist of citral). Some (bitter) orange oils or bergamot are also quite durable, it depends on the variety.” This fits perfectly with the information here.

Diptyque, of course, does not rely solely on citrus, even if it is camouflage. The verbena is allowed to play its own role, and tarragon is also plausible; at least something from the kitchen spice corner is faintly floating in.

The first test of endurance announces itself after just five minutes. L'Eau de Neroli approaches the cleaning product-like. Oh dear. But it holds up bravely, only letting through a clean impression and otherwise remaining citrusy, just no longer as expansive as at the beginning.

A proximity to 4711 cannot be denied as it progresses, but Diptyque is airier. Nevertheless, as the freshness recedes throughout the morning, it turns a bit too much towards white floral. The cedarwood is already present, but it cannot “dismiss” my slightly plush associations. In my mind's eye, I see the 4711 jug in my late grandmother's bathroom, honorably draped on a small, brocade-look doily. L'Eau de Neroli can’t be blamed for this image, but it doesn’t help me any further.

Unfortunately, not much happens in the afternoon. The scent character remains fundamentally preserved, while it gradually shifts in appearance from “perfume” towards “body cream, latently soapy” - a contribution from the white musk. I notice nothing of wax, however. In the eighth or ninth hour, it’s over - that’s decent, especially since remnants last into the evening.

Conclusion: For me, it’s one from the long line of half-hour deliciously fresh bombs. After that, I like it less and less. I recommend it to friends (and friends) of orangey-floral-creamy scents.

I thank Yatagan for the sample.

Pretty, simple and straightforward. Bright citrus and soft spoken white florals without any useless flourishes. Can easily overspray this.

My family brings tangerines when driving long distances because the scent from the peels really helps with car sickness. This reminds me of that.

Delicate bright citrus freshness refined with neroli and orange blossom. And that's it. But as simple as the scent is, it's just as beautiful.

After bowing towards Cologne, the light-bright water is drawn away, the neroli blossom becomes more nectarous, earthly, warmer.

A great eau for hot days and cool nights. Neroli and orange blossom, interpreted from green to creamy-sweet. Timeless and elegant.

Citrus fruit, the leaf, the blossom, a verbena, a drop of honey on metal. Soapy, powdery, puffed up with white musk. Routine!
