Fascinating complex jungle
On a blotter it opens sharp and cool the way it's supposed to be, but on me it's a little weird, like warmed-up lime which isn't very nice. The dry-down is actually really beautiful, though. I smell the bergamot and petitgrain a lot, keeping it fresh, but the Peru balsam note grounds it all and helps the other notes last and shine. While it never turns into a full-on woody scent, it's great because it is deep and almost full-bodied, yet still fresh and bright.

And of course, as people often mention online, it smells fancy, expensive, luxurious. And yet it's not your typical rich-person-smell (do I even know what I mean by this? I don't know), it doesn't feel like the perfume is trying to show off its opulence. It has an ancient energy to it, I can almost see Odysseus wearing this in an oil form brought for him to Ithaca. Really beautiful, wearable and long-lasting, and still it makes a statement.

Hanging Gardens
WHAT IT IS
Ancient Babylonian shaving oil with a bouquet of fresh immortelle nearby. Eau Nabati opens with some bergamot and herbaceous pettigrain, giving a spicy fougere-like vibe, then settles into a *superb* green, honey-sweet immortelle. The opening and mid last 4+ hours with noticeable sillage, then dry down into a beautiful amber-woody scent which leans slightly vanilla on my skin by the 8-9hr mark. Even without marketing language about desert gardens, the effect is one of mixing typically "green" notes (bergamot, immortelle) and "blue" notes (palm tree, Peru balsam) to create a deep teal composition... refreshing yet rich, not unlike a blooming oasis in hot desert air.

WHO IT'S FOR
You like Oriental fragrances, but don't want to stray too far into heavy resinous accords or gas the people around you. You want something you can feel good about wearing to work in the morning and still be subtly there at happy hour in the evening. You're likely a guy, but this is absolutely unisex - especially if you love immortelle.

ALTERNATIVES
Dior Dune captures a similar melange of green notes with vanilla accords, though it's sharper and more synthetic. Eight & Bob's The Original is a creamy green fougere anchored by amber; there's no immortelle, but the overall effect is similar. Pellegrin's own Eau de Minthe is a minty-geranium barbershop fougere, but sits at the opposite end of the spectrum from Nabati... icy, bracing, and short-lived (though beautiful).

FINAL THOUGHTS
If Eau Rihla's nuclear powered sillage put me off to Diptyque's Middle Eastern fragrances, Nabati brought me back. Some reviews have criticized that Nabati isn't "original enough" for a niche house like Diptyque, but I strongly believe this is one of Pellegrin's most wearable fragrances to date, seamlessly transitioning from day to night, warm to cool, casual to elegant, and striking the right balance of intimate vs loud - I'll take that any day over a piece of art I can't wear!

Hard to grasp minimalist
Eau Nabati is a very special fragrance that you don't smell on every corner and that somehow can't be described in a few words. Yes, it's a little difficult to describe - but it's really beautiful! I would classify it on the unisex to masculine spectrum. Thanks to its freshness, I think it is best suited to the warmer months and everyday life. It lasts well, still on my skin after 9 hours, and I'm an absolute under-sprayer. With the best will in the world, I don't have a vision of what type of person this fragrance suits. It is somehow too unique for that, too difficult to grasp.

I like linear perfumes because a fragrance often irritates me at some point in its development, which ultimately detracts from my enjoyment of it. Eau Nabati is different. Over the hours on the skin, it becomes more and more beautiful and pleasant. It does not overwhelm right from the start, remaining minimalist, understated and uncomplicated.

At the beginning there is a sharp, fresh glacier ice candy in green that meets a wild spring meadow. Over time, a sweet, minimally floral, almost almondy note develops in the background... Immortelle, of course, but perhaps also heliotrope? This gives the fragrance a beautiful depth and warmth without taking away its lightness and "coolness".
In the drydown, this note comes more and more to the fore. It is wonderfully interwoven with the balsamic, ambience of the fragrance. I am blown away here at the latest.

It is also this subtly sweet note that prevents Eau Nabati from being too off-putting or bulky. The green in combination with amber and the slight sweetness reminds me of Ani by Nishane. I'm sure that's why the fragrance is particularly good in the summer heat and is still enveloping, warming and cooling at the same time.

The fragrance has quite a hefty price tag, which makes me question the value for money. Only time will tell whether I will fork out the ducats for the full bottle after I have used my sample very carefully and sparingly. It's not an absolute masterpiece that will blow you away, but it still flies under the radar among the Diptyque fragrances (at least that's my impression?). A super beautiful, unusual fragrance for all those who like green and appreciate understatement.

Very nice, green and succulent amber — like a lush oasis. Smells familiar even though I don't recall trying Dune.

The idea of a green oasis in the desert suits the fragrance well. Woody, resinous notes are complemented by grassy greenery.

A dry amber suitable for hot weather. Great desert-like opening, but unremarkable drydown. The immortelle lacks the sweet spicy facets.
