Dark memory of a pine forest
As I let myself fall into a memory, into the image of a pine forest far away in the thoughts of my childhood, I fell through sharp points of thin dark green needles, causing tiny whirls of ethereal excitement in the trees, before I sank into the balsamic soil of earthy spice liqueur, soft as an Italian mattress, which had been used for generations, whose sides threatened to slump over me in slow motion like waves of a tired sea.
Sometimes the meandering mass of resinous woods, labdanum and myrrh lifted me up to the brown withered branches where armies of ants swirled up incense, warm clouds wandered over earthy soils, cloves and needles rained into dark puddles of cinnamon and green spices. Sometimes I sank deeper into the balsamic soil, then I thought of the girl made of needles, shimmering dimly in the shadows, almost sinister of herbs, slightly bitter, spinning ethereal coniferous threads that glowed dark green-bluish.
**
The "Dufttanker MGO Duftmanufaktur" from Dierdorf has dedicated itself to the use of real essential oils in high concentrations, following the example of the perfumes of the seventies, not least in order to counter the current trend of the so-called head note blenders. "Pine Forest" reminds me somewhat of "Fille en aiguilles" in its dark green-needled, tangy-spicy, frankincense notes, but is more complex, mainly due to the cinnamony-vanilla notes of Peru balsam that I recognise, the more balsamic nuances of the various resins and woods and the base of labdanum, smoke and green essential vapours already mentioned by Caligari and PallasCC. I spent about six hours in the moderately scented soft soil of the pine forest.
(With thanks to Caligari and PallasCC)
