Have You Ever Been 2 Manhattan?
My first encounter with the original 5th Avenue Eau de Parfum was odd. Reading the reviews written by @Anessa and following her hints, I was fascinated so much that I ordered online some of 5th Avenue collection perfumes, and 5th Avenue Only NYC is one of them. In these days, you can award online a 75ml bottle for less than 15 euro, which is merely ridiculous. But let's go back to 5th Avenue Only in New York City. It's a pretty cool fresh and sweet fragrance that offers the floral, fruity and woody amber facets. The flacon design repeats the form of the predecessors. It takes inspiration by 5th avenue; iridescent black and magenta stripes line the sleek glass bottle, complete with a golden stopper, transporting you directly to NYC. Have you ever been to Manhattan? You have to. Yet, ONLY NYC is not a flanker of 5th Avenue classic. I cannot grasp the inspiration of the original, but it is softer, younger and fresher as if the perfume had been energised.

If 5th Avenue classic is a flowering bomb, ONLY NYC is a fruity weapon, no question about it. This time, the perfumer Ann Gottlieb reflected the surge of energy and hectic pace of New York City into her creation. There are plenty of fruits, and the opening unfolds with a syrupy accord from tart and sweet berries, which mingle with citrus peels of bergamot and soft mandarin. There is a sort of peach vibe, and other overripe fruits like apricots. Since the first steps, I can get the honey and plum ready to explode, and they add complexity and depth as the scent moves to its fragrant heart. The blend is powdered with a touch of pink peppercorn that adds the right spiciness stabilising the otherwise too sweetness.

As the intoxicating black fruity blast calms down, a bouquet of white, yellow, and pink flowers blooms. The magnolia is just a background supporter, on par with the rosy wild peony, but the mimosa stands up with its prolific smell. A spoon of honey harmonises with these floral accords for a hypnotic, more sensual bouquet. The heart is not only about flowers, but a juicy plum also adds hints of mildness and mixes well with florals and spices. What I thought was a wild berries note is perhaps plum, that dominates in the early stages along with the mimosa and honey.

The more the heart approaches the dry down, the more the smell is vaguely sweetish, medicinal, like cough syrup. Now I could feel the taste of old dried fruit, burned to sugar. The long-lasting base transmits subtle creamy notes of white amber, which is heavy on the sandalwood and florals, smooth, and blissful, and a powdery accord from the elegant iris root. It smells warm, a little spicy, modern, earthy woods, and sensual amber.

The overall effect is a pleasant, easy-to-wear day time scent for anyone who appreciates a grown-up fruity floral that isn't too sweet. Although it doesn't seem to have prodigious sillage, it's quite long-lasting and undoubtedly sturdy enough for anyone close to you to smell. A perfect office scent, fitting the day and evening out. Elizabeth Arden, or better Ann Gottlieb, seems to keep up and produce ideal quality scents with a variety of unique flavours. I believe their affordable prices are what keeps them from being far more respected. ONLY NYC is fascinating to me; it's creamy and soft, a soothing perfume for sure. Also, a very inoffensive and safe everyday scent, and a pretty safe blind buy.

This review is based upon a 75ml bottle I blindly bought (Batch code L6KA1, Production date 2016-08).
