The passion, at the beginnig, overwhelming one between two lovers. The one that remains in the soul and on the skin, that memory that can be translated into an olfactory symphony.
Lovers is a strong fragrance, which opens fruity and sparkling and is then overwhelmed by intense, ripe floral scents and saffron, which, at least on my skin, dominates the entire evolution.
An opulent, important creation that does not go unnoticed, not my thing but, like all Fragrance du Bois, excellent.

Lovers at first Sniff...

It was in a small perfumery in Maastricht, which had a nice selection of niche fragrances on offer. I was there with my girlfriend, who is not necessarily a fragrance enthusiast, but bravely and patiently accompanied me...
I had actually decided to test only Xerjoff fragrances so as not to overwhelm the nice saleswoman, my girlfriend and my nose. At first I succeeded well... there were already 10 test strips of Xerjoff fragrances on the counter in front of me. One of the Casamorati's Casamorati - Fiore d'Ulivo Eau de Parfum and the La Capitale had already landed on my forearms, but then I saw the beautiful bottle of Lovers and couldn't take my eyes off it. It also landed on my wrist and immediately fascinated me. Right from the start, I got a very luxurious, fruity freshness and quite a strong scent of saffron. For me, this fragrance is unique so far. Yes, there are even better fragrances for me, but none smell like this one. Saffron usually comes with rose, woods, sugar or other spices. Here it is combined with passion fruit and dark plum. This makes it look very grown-up and modern.
For all those who don't like the smell of iodine... This is very noticeable here in the top note. Otherwise, I only smell the rose very faintly in the heart. The woods in the base and the ginger are only very faintly perceptible on my skin and that is the big weak point... The longevity is extremely poor for the proud price.
Top notes of dark, tart fruits and saffron for about 1 hour, then the fragrance disappears. Only the woods with a typical saffron base remain close to the skin.
I bought it anyway, because fragrance love works without endurance and quality is more important than quantity.
The feeling when you spray it on is wonderful.

The influencers won't wash this one off

In the era of the PR bottle where brands send free product to influencers so as to advertise their new releases, it shouldn't come as a surprise that dishonest behavior is at an all-time high. Lovers is currently the new release that is getting circulated by the brand, and is all over the feed across social media. The epitome of hype-beast, and it appears I'm the first to rain on the parade.

Anybody experienced with Fragrance du Bois knows that one of their signatures is the soapy rose. I say that because as a note, this might just be in 1 out of 3 fragrances from the brand. Lovers, similarly, is one of the three. It opens with a slightly boozy tint to the main rose note, flanked by moderate sweetness & spice. I knew the exact pyramid going into the second, and got none of the tropical fruit in the top. After 10 seconds, the boozy rose turns considerably soapy.

When smelled up-close, you notice a glaring weakness - the saffron is synthetic, much like Baccarat Rouge 540 Eau de Parfum or Crystal Saffron Eau de Parfum. So we have synthetic saffron on soapy rose. A surprising revelation as the scent dries is that the top notes which weren't visible in the top, are visible in the base and offer the scent a specific Erba Pura-like aspect, I'd maybe even say this aspect is closer to Kirkè Extrait de Parfum than to the Xerjoff. Cashmeran here smells more musky to me, even more supporting the idea that the accords from previously listed 2 scents have been merged into Lovers. As I'm sure most people know, the profile of Erba Pura and/or Kirke is also synthetic so we are leveraging synthetic tones onto the FDB signature soapy rose. Deep drydown is reminiscent of a soapy musk (take the soapy component of the rose & the musk component of the Erba Pura/Kirke profile) with mild hints of tropical fruit & rose.

Another thing that I haven't noticed anybody criticize this scent for is the simplicity of the product. I would argue you can make product that is superior to this just by layering known, popular scents together. The evolution is so transparent that you can just see how it was constructed - take any soapy rose (Oud Rose Intense, Parisian, Astaral, Amber Aoud), do a spritz of saffron (BR540, Crystal Saffron), and add musky tropical fruit (Erba Pura, Kirke).

After originally opening with a feminine lean, it dries fairly unisex. Performance is surprisingly average - after starting loud, I am left wondering if it will even make the 8-10 hours necessary for this to be ranked an 8 for longevity. A huge disappointment in a place where I was expecting a candidate for "Niche release of the year".

Lover's Start /Slowly We Unfurl...

LOVERS starts off with a lush burst of fruit coctail, bergamot, ginger then it evokes tropical hint with passion fruit while plum starts to emerge. The opening is really succelent, thick and mellow. It has right amount of freshness and sweetness. To some extent it reminds of a really juicy bubblegum.
What happens next is what LOVERS in my opinion is all about. That beautiful saffron. Its intoxicating and seductive. It envelopes an aurora around you thats a bit leathery, a bit medicinal and metallic in the beginning. Its softened by gentle rose and Jasmine even though the floral facets are subtle.
Fragrance Du Bois' surely know how to make their saffron note feel so natural and seductive whether it be Sahraa or Cavort.
In the drydown I mostly get the collision between woody notes, cashmere and sandalwood in which sandalwood prevails making it silky smooth fragrance.
Fragrance Du Bois have hit the right spot with LOVERS, I feel this is much better than other offerings such as Cavort and Secret Tryst. You get a well crafted complex creation. Its perfectly unisex, seductive and all season fragrance with good performances.
To my nose, I get a bit of Oud Orange Intense.
