Chinchilla Galimard

seemingly an unknown fragrance being yet very present
Galimard Parfums: This company was founded in 1747 in Grasse; the first listed fragrance appeared (according to Fragrantica) in 1960, the last in 2024; traded on eBay - surprisingly also called “Chin-Chilla” on the bottles - and yet seemingly unknown.
If it weren't for the light blonde residue of liquid in the sample bottle, a stylish, floral Chypre-like scent that seems to belong to another time, and spreads richly and warmly, even on my cool skin, with a noticeable animalic note.
Ah, “Chinchilla”: You send me on a quest for fragrance notes and I willingly embark on it.
Hesperid aromas, certainly a bit of bergamot and perhaps even pomelo, radiate, thanks to generously dosed aldehydes, citrus-fresh and lively: A classic top note, with a slightly subdued green and the sunny personality of a not-so-young charming woman. Round, soft, and wonderfully lush!
Opulence and maturity also in the summer flower garden:
Pink carnation spice and unmistakable rose beauties meet the well-known white flowers jasmine and tuberose, both not too shy, and a hint of iris ...
Perhaps some of my beloved lily of the valley are peeking around the corner.
Ylang ylang's blooming vines lovingly embrace this floral heart.
If I didn't just have a small nose, but were a “nose,” my fragrance memory wouldn't have to work so hard.
In any case, “Chinchilla” at this stage of its development reminds me of a beautiful piece of soap that smells delicately with soft foam and indulges.
After a while, I encounter quite subdued oak moss (Oh, so shy?) and sandalwood, rich, creamy, and masculine, accompanied by leather and vetiver.
Here, the civet animalic of the little sneaky, not-so-clean cat is anticipated: It was already there, rolling around, purring contentedly in a sensually warm musk bed!
Everything seemingly quite ordinarily “knitted,” but still beautiful, flattering, and therefore well wearable.
Perhaps “Chinchilla” by Galimard was just one of the many fragrance creations that have accompanied or accompany us over so many years without us really noticing them: There were just too many of its kind!
Surely a scent that (and the few available sales offers suggest this) was mainly distributed in America.
“Who knows the fragrances, names them?” one might ask here.
But, despite all the unanswered questions, I encounter a charming floral scent with average sillage and longevity: One of many?
Perhaps! But surely one whose acquaintance is worth making for me, even if this elegant South Frenchman withholds quite a bit from me.
I think I’ll let him keep his secrets and simply enjoy him …

Another excellent description of a (surely) extraordinary fragrance that still needs to be discovered.

Just enjoy it 😌. It's the best thing we can achieve with a fragrance.

A very beautiful description of a journey of discovery. For me, an "old" chypre is always worth the trip.
