Fresh From The Chain Store
The perfumes of Gianfranco Ferré do not stand in the centre of people's attention. However, it seems they have found their place in the market – you might have to look for them in the lower shelves of your perfume store, but they keep on showing their presence.
The name Acqua Azzurra and the sea blue colour of the bottle can only mean one thing: it's an aquatic! Meanwhile, this fresh class of fragrances has become a bit out of fashion. Today, needs for freshness are much more served with the so called sports fragrances – a hype that never seems to come to an end. Acqua Azzurra looks like a late representative of the aquatic wave, and in the top notes, there is much citrus in the style of a grapefruit note. Today, people in power would release such a perfume simply as a sports fragrance. Between hints of aquatic calone, hedione or the like and the very present fresh citruses Acqua Azzurra is halfway of both styles.
The dialogue of citric and aquatic notes takes place before a background of washing powder musk and some of those rough, dry accords that I have learned to use the word “amber” for, and that can be typically found in mass market fragrances. Due to this, it is not really pleasant to smell Acqua Azzurra directly on skin. Within its sillage the sharpness is reduced and the fragrance becomes comfortable.
All that can be smelled here is part of the global fragrance mainstream. Perfume lovers will get the impression of having smelled this fragrance before elsewhere, and numerous times. Should we blame Acqua Azzurra for being a bore? Whoever has a preference for this kind of fresh perfumes might like it – he will get an average, but not a bad fragrance. Acqua Azzurra can be found for around 30 € which I find acceptable.
Acqua Azzurra is not my cup of tea. If acquatic, then I would go for something more special. Thanks to NightFighter for sending me the sample. He also informed me that it is the current, reformulated version I tested. Before 2012, Acqua Azzurra was presumably a bit different.
