The Power of Love
Today I would like to present the fragrance Blooming Rose created by Alexander Lee, an emerging perfumer of the historic Mane essential house. The new creation takes inspiration by the flower emblem of the heart and romanticism: the rose. This blossom has a distinct botanical structure with five petals arranged around the corolla that can repeat indefinitely in the cultivated specimens, or remain a single perfect row in the natural ones such as rose hips. No matter what, a rosebud always has the shape of an upside-down heart, and it symbolizes sacred love and profane love, absolute completeness. This hidden and underrated gem is for the lover of scents with a bold floral accent.
Let’s begin with the packaging. The geometric rigour of the square parallelepiped bottle plays a fundamental role in enhancing the softness of the colours ranging from the purple of the cap and the writings on the glass to the very light violet of the jus. The purple plexiglass cap is of a particular effect, slightly darker than the jus. It almost seems as if it reflects a beneficial healing ray in it.
Concerning the juice, Blooming Rose greets me with an alcoholic red fruit cocktail. The alcohol in the mix is slightly sturdy in the opening. As soon as it subsides, a hint of sourness comes from the mellifluous pomelo, akin to grapefruit but less dirty. Raspberries are both tasty and sweet, juicy and tart, more sophisticated than black currants, but just as lush. The sparkling fruity accord adds a joyful atmosphere to the flowery heart notes. It is just perfect with roses. And jasmine. Sometimes I wonder why the combination of fruits and berries with flowers is so enchanting, and Blooming Rose confirms this.
In the heart notes, you can feel the hypnotic power of the most fragrant flowers. The romance of the rose shines, it is the queen and stands among the other flowers, letting them play in the background. Freesia is very angelic, pleasant, emitting hints of honey, mint and strawberry, a tad powder, and slightly overhangs the lush charm of indolic jasmine. The presence of raspberries remains, but this intermediate state is definitely in bloom. I even get a sort of aqueous powderiness, which means that a pinch of violet leaves is in there.
The dry down is a sheer and wooden path, far too dry and creamy. The velvety sandalwood that hits from the start now blends with a harder cedarwood. In the background, a symphony of refined white woods, allegedly cashmere, gives the last touch of elegance and modernity. Ain’t amber, neither musk nor moss. Just sun-washed woods. It cushions a foundation of smooth woody notes with creamy sandal and the dryness of a cedar glow. It is perhaps more sensual, but it is a clean sensuality that is weightless, pure and luminous.
Blooming Rose perfume is for those looking for a cosy and pure fragrance that lasts for hours. Both sillage and projection are moderate, it’s not the kind of scent that screams, but something that stays more intimate. Instead, longevity is above average. I sprayed two sprays on the back of my hand in the evening, to test and write this review, and the smooth woody base was still there the next morning when I woke up. I like to think of this perfume during the warmer seasons, from early spring to autumn, when the days are still warm.
This review bases on a 100ml (3.4 Fl. oz) bottle I own since August 2020.
