Delicate classic

The aroma begins with a pleasant soapy-floral aroma, which, after 30 seconds, is joined by sourness due to bergamot, and after another 20 seconds the aroma of minty freshness is added, similar to the taste of mint chewing gum orbits, which does not stand out from the general rhythm. Towards the heart the scent changes to bubblegum with jasmine. Then a rose and an orchid will be added to it. And in the end the aroma becomes very delicate. Moss, a little bit of pine nuts and sandalwood begin to be felt. The aroma is very pleasant, suitable for a first date or going to a club in warm weather.

The Special One

I just counted again: eight (8!) empty bottles including a travel bottle can be found in my old gingerbread box, which serves as a home for my surviving bottles.
Additionally, there is a perfume bottle.
Once taken for granted, this scent is now a rarity that is rarely available.
I guard my mini bottle like a little treasure!

Looking back, fate has given me the right partner for every phase of life, whether good or bad, who accompanied me.
This is also true today with the fragrances in my life: each has its time - and at just this time, it is good and right!
(Maybe only those born under Gemini can understand this; those elusive beings that dance with the air!)

This "classic" Armani scent has a very special charm: it stays in memory, leaving almost visible traces that are not easily erased.

The first moment with it is always a bit surprising: mint and marigold are not what one expects in a top note. And yet they should not be missing here. They lead to an astonishing fragrance development. They already give this scent its unique timbre.
In the floral notes, Ron Winnegrade relied on the tried and true and truly nothing exotic.
But here too, the dose makes the scent: I have never encountered this mixture of floral fragrances so well-balanced again. - It is simply too special!
Earthy, mossy, woody - this is how this fragrance composition concludes!
It is not smooth and round; no, distinct corners and edges reveal themselves upon closer acquaintance.
They make this Armani scent interesting - very mysterious.

There are several bottles for the Eau de Toilette; all are straightforward and classic - truly Armani!
A full-bodied sillage and very long-lasting durability characterize this fragrance painting.
It consists of deep, harmonious colors with bright, shining dots that do not fade quickly and still maintain a certain memory the next morning.

This scent holds so many memories; a little longing resonates: the dress made of natural-colored silk on a not too warm summer; a melody - played poorly by a street musician; the tender smile over a glass of red wine ...

A VERY GREAT ONE

I no longer remember exactly when I first smelled and bought this. It must have been in the 80s, because it wasn't available before.

Back then, I had absolutely no idea what the scents were made of or what kind of fragrance or fragrance direction I had. Whether it was chypre or not, it didn't matter, I wore it, carried it around, bought it new.

If I didn't like it, I gave it away (I still often do that today), but I actually liked Armani for a very long time.

However, as it often happens, sometimes you get too used to a scent and no longer want to wear it. I felt that way about this one for a while.
But for a few weeks now, I've had an insane craving for vintage perfumes. Recently, some of them have moved in with me, and it's getting more and more.

What do I actually need all the others for? Ten scents should be enough. Five for spring/summer, five for autumn/winter.
That's what I sometimes think, but then I can't help but buy new (old) ones; I must be crazy.

Anyway, I come back to Armani Donna and I'm totally in the eighties. At least when it comes to fragrances. Because the fashion was terrible, the leggings, the oversized blazers, the neon-colored tracksuits, the oversized jewelry, I don't like any of that today.
When it comes to fragrances, it's a different story: SARABE, WOMAN III, TRUSSARDI Donna, PALOMA PICASSO, etc. I had all of them and still like some of them.
However, ARMANI, in my opinion, plays in a different league. Here, all the wonderful scent notes come together that wouldn't fit together elsewhere, like pineapple with marigold, tuberose with cyclamen, and the usual suspects like oakmoss, sandalwood, amber, and cedar.

Everything feels perfectly in place; it couldn't be done better. It has a floral-spicy softness, full-bodied and wholesome, like an old wine. It is simply brilliantly composed. I don't know Ron Winnegrad, but to me, he is a very GREAT ONE.

A child of the 80s?...!...?
Yes and No! Yes, it is present, doesn’t hold back - that fits with the extroverted 80s that I experienced fully aware. However, in terms of clothing, its counterpart in the fragrance sector should be more squeaky sweet and/or erotically shrill. Paloma Picasso fits that image better.
This Armani Donna - I only know it as EdT, and it is already beyond the expected measure - is, despite all its presence, not a bombshell. Certainly, you cannot miss it, but it still leaves you room to breathe. What emanates from it is a distinctive to slightly angular scent profile. After the fast-paced top note, a dense fabric of fine, aromatic woods remains, soaked with noble floral oils, and ... yes, what and?... rounded off with a balsamic touch? - Yes and No!
Yes, the idiosyncratic angular scent structure is rounded off by soft, earthy, and balsamic aromas. And No, the edges have not disappeared because of that.
I associate this distinctive fragrance with a woman of the same kind and also a man of the same kind. It conveys approachability while maintaining boundaries. And elegance while being down-to-earth.
I like it very much, although more for the darker days and seasons.

A beautiful, classic Chypre-Aldehyde

Finally, I am unpacking and reviewing vintage miniatures again. I have accumulated quite a few from Armani. I really liked this one. Although the Armani is generally feminine, I find it also wearable for men. The longevity is strong at over 12 hours, and the sillage is impressive.

The top note starts off very aldehydic thanks to citrusy bergamot and floral hints of marigold, ylang-ylang, and daffodils. You can immediately tell that this is a classic Chypre with greenish aromas. The heart note then offers a sea of flowers consisting of lily of the valley, iris, violet, tuberose, jasmine, orchids, and rose water. The base smells spicy, woody, resinous, balsamic, and earthy with oak moss, sandalwood, a hint of musk, galbanum, and cedar.

I am realizing again how much I enjoy these "old" fragrances. Although I would tend to part with my Armani miniatures, one or two might just stay here after all.
