A wonderful delicate rose oud from Givenchy
This review of Noctambule from Givenchy is based on a 10 ml mini.
Noctambule demonstrates that wonderful perfumes can be created from a few simple notes. It is a celebration of the Centifolia Rose from Grasse, enhanced by papyrus and oud notes. I confess that I cannot pickup papyrus separately from the cumin and pink pepper, which are also listed on the website. No matter! It is a primarily a rose darkened by oud and other ancillary notes. It is beautiful and elegant in every way. It doesn’t overwhelm in its projection, a shared characteristic of all the La Collection Particulière perfumes.
Noctambule is a delicate perfume, very distinct from other heavy rose oud perfumes such as MFK Oud Satin Mood or Guerlain Santal Royal. It floats and soars while the other two sink into a dense fog that can be cut with a knife. I like both light and heavy rose perfumes, each for its own occasion. Noctambule lasts more than 12 hours on my skin but the sillage is subdued as expected from a mature sophisticated Givenchy perfume.
Unfortunately, the only size available now is the 100 ml from Givenchy that costs $420. I was lucky to get a 10 ml when it was available. I am still debating if the full bottle is worth $420, or perhaps I should opt for another simple rose oud perfume such as A Rose For (Floris) or Oud Ispahan (Dior). It is definitely alarming when a member of the La Collection Privée Christian Dior is the affordable alternative.
