Warm and elegant

A friend of mine played a game with me and sent me a sample of this perfume with a “?” on the label. So without knowing what to expect here are my thoughts:

At the beginning it smells quite classic, masculine and 90s vibe (i then realized it was the lavender).

Then i smelt a weird mix between apple and tobacco, with a slightly sweet vanillix background. I then realized the tobacco was actually the oud/suede combo.

Overall, i really liked and the overall review was apple/tobacco/vanilla mix, with a classic intro and a similar vibe to Silky Woods in the drydown. He told me “you’re not that far with silky woods” :-)
I actually thought it was a parfums de marly for the apple slightly designer-ish feel.

At the end of the game he told me Purple Suede and i realized everything. Really good one, the drydown is very similar to silky woods but this is more fruity in the middle and quite sharp and sparkling at the beginning.

Superb suede, fully purple via floral, sweet, resinous touches.

Goldfield & Banks Purple Suede is a 2022 release that is part of the botanical series (that also includes Silky Woods and Island Lush), an aptly-named suede-centric fragrance that has sweet, dark, and floral qualities, conjuring its purple name. It’s rich and smooth, easy to wear despite being very interesting, with a lot of nuance, like resinous and slightly smoky touches, all with a bit, but not too much sweetness. Additional notes include lavender, pink pepper, patchouli, and oakmoss.

Purple Suede, as with the rest of the Botanical Series, is priced at $240/47 for 100/10ml, so not cheap, but I find it’s very nice to have a 10ml option for both a more extended trial and for travel, so props to the brand for that. It’s sold at boutiques like Perfumology and Luckyscent that carry the brand.

Too long of a wait for something good

Purple Suede opened with a blast of leather which was quickly overcome by a sweet berry type of scent. It smelled very close to blueberries. The berry scent morphed into a mix with a floral scent as the leather began to strengthen. This sweet berry + floral scent hung around way too long which I found very unpleasant. It slowly decayed as the leather became more pronounced. At no point did I get anything animalic. It seemed to take about 2 hours for the transition to take place. By then, it was mainly a dry leather which was pretty nice. But the initial sweet berry floral scent was just too much for me. Didn't care for it at all.

Longevity and projection were pretty good.

Goat and Lavender

I learned to love suede peppered with oud and juniper from Suede Galore (Cloon Keen Atelier). I was surprised how much I love to inhale the aroma of suede, me, who is so suspicious of animalic notes. Since then, I've embraced a lot of perfumes with leather notes, but I couldn't do the same for Purple Suede.

Purple Suede has a fresh and effervescent opening, thanks to the piney lavender. It's almost like it gives you a jolt of energy to start your day. Unfortunately, the evolution is very animalic, rancid like a goat, the flavor of a cattle enclosure that is incredibly persistent. It's almost like this is a perfume for a satyr, rather than a human.

Am învățat să iubesc aroma de piele întoarsă piperată cu lemn și ienupăr de la Suede Galore (Cloon Keen Atelier). M-a surprins cat de mult nu mă satur să adulmec mirosul de piele întoarsă, eu, care sunt atât de suspicioasă de note aspre, animalice. De atunci, am devenit mai deschisă să încerc și alte parfumuri pe bază de pielărie.

Purple Suede are o deschidere proaspătă și atrăgătoare: lavanda coniferoasă e superbă și efervescentă, parcă îți dă un imbold să-ți începi ziua cu mai multa energie. Din păcate, evoluția este foarte animalică, râncedă ca o capră, un iz de grajd care persistă. Parca e un parfum mai mult pentru satir, decât un om.

Much better than the rating

With G&B brand you can do no wrong, no matter what perfume you will buy. They are all well done and smell expensive, on top of that you have gems like Purple Suede or Silky Woods which are even more concentrated.

This scent here starts quite animalic, and there is a hint of oud right from the first sniff. On Parfum it is not mentioned this note but on the G&B Shop is in the summary of the notes.

When it evolves a bit and it gets into the drydown, it becomes a spicy, leathery awesome smell .. which reminds me a lot of Acqua di Parma Oud & Spice.

If they had a 50ml bottle, I guess I would get one, because I love it but it is too strong and animalic to use it as a daily.
