What's old is new again?
Guerlain Vetiver EDT is an iconic, classic piece of perfumery that has a more than respectable following, even to this day. It's a favorite of mine, one that as I've worn more frequently, I've become quite obsessed with, so getting the chance to try this new Vetiver Parfum was very exciting. For some reason I was expecting this to be a drastic change from the original EDT, but I was a bit shocked to find that they aren't all that different from each other. Similarly to the EDT, the parfum opens with a bright bergamot note with a bit of a powdery-woody accord to follow. Shortly after, the vetiver begins to enter, leaving a heavy, raw and earthy green note behind. As it dries there is some difference though. Where the EDT stays pretty centered on the vetiver, the parfum keeps the vetiver at the center, but adds in a bit of a sweet tobacco note, as well as the slightest touch of smoke. It's not incredibly noticeable, even when smelling the two side by side, but it is a change I noticed. I found the parfum to be a bit more dense as well, which somehow leads me to believe this particular iteration may fare a bit better on skin versus fabric, though with only a couple of wears, I can't quite discern that yet.
Overall, I am still pleased with this parfum. It's not a wild reinvention of the classic DNA by any means, but it is a solid take on a fragrance that has captured many hearts over the years. I still give it a 10 as it's a DNA that I absolutely love, but for most I can see the lack of uniqueness lowering that number a bit. For many, the EDT is likely going to be the go-to still, as it was quite perfect in the first place, but this is a solid option, especially for the right price.
