Not Sought and Yet Found
Sunday. 23.07.2017. Cologne-Godorf. 18 degrees, slightly cloudy. Hair is set. And a flea market! And a gigantic one at that. I enjoy browsing flea markets. Not only for fragrances but also for all sorts of things that people no longer need but can bring great joy to others like me.
Often, flea markets only sell phone cases and large quantities of fruits and vegetables. This one was different, precisely because it was so huge. Here, people like you and me offer their treasures.
So it was that I initially stood at a large perfume stand, about to buy 110 ml of "Aramis" for around 25.00 €. However, I was able to resist the temptation and wanted to think it over. A few rows away, a young couple (or brother and sister? I didn’t ask further) was sitting at their small stand selling a few perfumes. "Helmut Lang Eau de Cologne." I had heard of it before and knew that the feedback was consistently positive. The bottle was almost full, and I politely asked if I could test it and what it would cost. "Yes, and I would sell it to you for 30.00 €!" 30.00 € sounds too good to be true. Still, I took a spray on my arm and continued browsing.
I kept having to smell my arm. The opening is briefly very alcoholic-fresh-sharp. But really only for a very short time. After that, it becomes directly orangey-fresh. Not citrusy, but already slightly powdery. You can also immediately tell that the sillage is not particularly pronounced. Projection is just not everyone's cup of tea. After another hour of browsing, vanilla slowly joined in. And not in the form of a sweet vanilla pudding but, as FabianO aptly described, in its pure form. I perceive this fragrance as incredibly elegant and stylish. Clean and perfectly groomed. I had to buy this scent.
Unfortunately, I got a bit lost in the tumultuous and hectic crowd in this gigantic Ikea parking lot, and my daughter was already slightly annoyed. She was determined to buy a remote-controlled dinosaur (which we ultimately did; by the way, it's a really cool thing ;-). Well, after a long search, I finally found the stand and purchased this gem for 28.00 €.
Of course, doubts crossed my mind about whether this fragrance could be a counterfeit. But everything fits. The bottle and the print. My impressions align with those of my predecessors. And of course, the sticker with the batch code and company name on the bottom.
Once home, I noticed that alongside the vanilla, which still doesn’t seem too sweet to me, something woody has joined in. The whole thing harmonizes very well together and rounds off the fragrance nicely.
As mentioned above, the performance unfortunately isn’t that great. After about four to five hours, the scent was gone. That means reapplying at lunchtime. And I find that this is the only downside. For the performance, it would simply be too expensive for me.
What remains? Well, I must confess that I have rarely smelled such a stylish and elegant fragrance. It probably doesn’t get any better than this. The old version, which I don’t know myself, is said to have been even a bit better.
A fresh-powdery, woody-clean scent for special occasions.

I always dream of finding something like that at a flea market - I’ve actually had it work out once! So congratulations, you’ve scored something really special, I think!
