No vanilla, but flowers
I feel an urgent need today to do some justice to this fragrance, which has been much disrupted here, and put it somewhat in context. My impression is that its name is responsible for many misunderstandings. Because Vanille Galante (or VG) is many things, but certainly not a vanilla fragrance.

Immediately after spraying on, VG is first of all green, greener, greenest. I admit, my Vorredner*innen are right when they sniff a tick plastic, but more about that later. Between the green, the flowers immediately appear, first and foremost the lily. You have to like the scent of the lily to like VG, because it's really dominant, accompanied here by something salty and watery that some might perceive as brackish floral water. I feel more reminded of a pond on a hot day. There is something fruity about it, I would guess banana. Yes, there is a banana peel next to the pond. It's rather not green anymore, but has been there for a while. More blossoms are appearing, including ylang ylang, which I cherish.

After a few more minutes, the aforementioned plastic note melts into the banana, kind of like scorching a cup of banana fruit gnomes (I know, please don't replicate this at home). It occurs to me then, maybe that plastic note comes from the sandalwood, because it has such a subtle furniture polish note to it.

It's joined by an aquatic note of salty water. This stays quite long and is, if you like it, very sexy.

At the end, the fragrance then sounds in a sunscreen-like sweetness, but not pappig sweet, but cuddly.

The durability is, as with many of the Hermessencen, really very good. I can't relate to the frequent complaints about the oh-so-light and transparent Ellena. Yes, the fragrance floats over the skin, sometimes goes and then comes back, but is never completely gone and yet leaves you alone - that is quite great perfumery art, if you ask me. Sure, you can't expect a huge projection here, but if PERFORMANCE is the goal, there are millions of other alternatives for that. VG easily holds out a whole day.

If I now, after about three to four days, smell again at the test strip, then the airy light, dusted with flowers sunscreen is still there.

Conclusion: if you like floral scents with especially lily and ylang ylang, then give Vanilla Galante still a chance. Just do not expect a vanilla fragrance, but ellenasche haute couture

Hermessence Vanille Galante
This fragrance opens with the exotic note of ylang ylang framed by indistinct green notes and a dash of spices. The head accord smells of water, green stems and flowers, it is salty and vanillic at the same time. As the fragrance progresses, the flower and vanilla notes dominate the accord, creating in my mind the idea of a large Vanilla orchid patch in various stages of bloom. The fragrance is elegant, exotic and feminine. It is perfect for spring and cool summer evening. Lasts for roughly 5 hours on my skin.

Gallant Vanilla
This one is one of the best from the collection. It is better in the sillage/lasting power area. Creamy, soft, sweet, a bit boozy and still transparent. There is a tiny hint of greenness. I would recommend this for office wear and for other occasions because it is a vanilla perfume but it is different, unlike any other vanilla scent. I would rate this number 3 from the Hermessence collection (behind Ambre Narguile and Rose Ikebana).

Too much lily...
The bottling has provided me the love Corawest, thanks again for that. Unfortunately, my nose is not so trained...
I perceive actually only two smells: quite penetrating - I guess- that is the lily. And then tree resins. Reminds me fully of the childhood-how gladly I have the sticky measures at the apricot trees carefully torn off and eaten ??. Unfortunately, I don't smell vanilla or any of the other notes. Only the two dominate

Sheer, sweet and subtle.
I really like this one! Sheer, sweet and subtle.

I get a lot of ylang-ylang in here (along with that characteristic faint, yet creamy hint of a banana like note). But what I especially like here is Jean-Claude Ellena's transparent use of vanilla. Forget the heavy, boozy, almost animalic vanilla of Guerlain, etc. Here the Vanilla is wrapped in very light spices and cognac. It's still quite light, but by no means fleeting. I would best describe it as "transparent". Neither too light, nor too heavy and cloying.

His inspiration was the origin of Vanilla as a trading spice, being brought across oceans in long voyages on sailing ships; along with other spices such as cloves and cinnamon, all tightly packed next to wooden barrels of cognac etc. All these ingredients can be detected in this fragrance, and they are all balanced beautifully.

I think Vanille Gallante is actually a really beautiful one. I know other people get rotten banana out of this, and that's a shame. But to me it's smells like hints of spices, Indian chai tea, and a creamy vanilla extract. I find it quite intoxicating. I think this is my favourite use of vanilla outside of a Guerlain perfume. Very different though, but I appreciate his take on it. Not bad Ellena!

A boozy, woody tobacco mixed with vanilla and florals. Its very light, but i love the originality. Beautiful wear tho, underrated.
