Impassable Wilderness Imaginary Authors 2026

Imaginary Authors is hit or miss for me with their releases and, unfortunately, more misses than hits. But the profile of this one ticked all my boxes so I ordered it immediately. It's bright and fresh pine needles with damp and dank forest floor - decaying leaves, fallen trees, dank and mossy. Really does a great job capturing deep forest after a rain. Instantly my favorite from the house.

When I describe wanting to smell like I rolled around on the forest floor. Pine needles and leaves in my hair, dirt on my denim. This is what I am referring to. There’s definitely waterfall or rapids and some moss covered wet stone. It’s not “pretty” perfume woods. This is mushrooms, logs and decaying leaves. This is atmospheric to the bone and I love it.

Years ago I went hiking with my (at the time) boyfriends family. Its important to note, I do not like hiking so I was already miserable. Probably 4 miles from camp it started raining. Not misting, or sprinkling. Raining. I have never been more miserable in my life, just on the smallest trail known to man, soaking wet in the Washington woods.

I became aware of the latest fragrance from the highly esteemed house of Imaginary Authors in connection with the upcoming animated film "Wildwood", which is based on a series of novels by Colin Meloy. As a nature lover since my earliest days, I knew exactly that this was the kind of fragrance composition I prefer, and that was confirmed when it arrived and I sprayed it for the first time. From the very beginning, wonderful facets of dense, untouched forests harmonize and unfold a glorious consonance that immediately transports the mind to woodland halls. Trees, shrubs and ferns so dense that you can practically sink into the greenery. You stroll through thick undergrowth, until a warm shower of rain sets in and gentle mist rises from the mossy ground. The unmistakable smell of petrichor emerges, immediately in harmony with the earthy, herbal, delightful scent of the evergreen woodland.

Imaginary Authors tell stories without words. Fragrances that let stories take shape in your own mind, and that is precisely what happens for me here in particular. My affinity for nature sends me on a wonderful journey of the imagination through dense woodland and other realms of natural mysticism. It is a powerful fragrance that is not loud, but instead unfolds its strength through sensual suggestions. Meditative and clarifying, like an extended stay in the wilderness, completely free of the disruptive influences of the modern age. This is not a fragrance for every day - it is a fragrance for truly special moments. Moments of inner reflection, of retreating into oneself, of meditation, of consciously letting go of chaos and all that is negative.

I love the forest. To me, it’s the place where you feel closest to nature. When you walk through a forest, it welcomes you in and wraps you in its embrace. You find peace and quiet among the deep green. It’s no coincidence that forest bathing, or spending mindful time in the woods, is said to have healing and stress-reducing effects. Yet my search for a perfume that evokes those very olfactory associations had been fruitless - until the new Impassable Wilderness by Imaginary Authors.

This perfume wonderfully recreates the sensory impressions of a walk through the forest on a lightly rainy autumn day. The ground is still a little wet, and the damp moss on the freshly felled trees gives off a distinctive scent. But damp earth and moss are by no means unpleasant - a gentle sweetness holds them together, lifting the mood like a soft, warm embrace, like autumn sunshine on skin that’s already a little cool. This isn’t a deep, gloomy forest, but a light-filled one. That airiness puts you in a good mood.

For me, this fragrance may be the discovery of the year. It’s beautifully composed, wonderfully wearable, and finally fills a gap in my collection: for moments when the longing is strong, but the nearest forest is too far away.
