Punched-up fig
For background, I enjoyed the original formulation of Yesterday Haze well enough to have owned a travel spray of it in the past, but never a full bottle. I had just gotten a birthday credit from IA when this dropped, so I impulse bought a full bottle, semi 'blind' I suppose you could say.
I am directly comparing both versions on opposite wrists right now, and there is definitely a notable difference between them. The fig note is tuned way up in 2.0, so what was always a fig fragrance is now a FIIIIIIG fragrance. The 2.0 fig is louder, brighter, heavier. Much more of a fresh fig as compared to 1.0's dried fig. I detect less milky creaminess in 2.0, rather the increased sharpness of the fig gives it a somewhat boozy quality over a dessert quality. Not that either version is super gourmand, but it's an aspect of both and the energy has shifted. I think the new one has more of a night-out vibe vs. the original's cozy vibe.
It still has that sort of scratchy, dusty, 'old paper' quality in its DNA that so many scents in the IA line share.
This an hour-1 first impression so I cannot speak to longevity just yet, but I do think 2.0 will have greater sillage, it's just a much louder scent overall. [update: longevity is respectable, it is still a noticeable skin scent on my wrist after 7+ hours and a shower)
It's good! I don't think anyone who was a fan of the original will dislike this necessarily, unless the figginess was your least favorite part of it... which would be odd.
