Happy ending to a complicated relationship?
Issey Miyake fragrances and I have a difficult relationship, "it's complicated" would be the status. I've tried them several times, always hoping that we'll finally get together. Because they read so well and fit so perfectly into my taste buds and yet there's always something not quite right. Extremely poor shelf life or somehow "too soft"/too "watery" - and I was really willing to give us a chance. It just wasn't meant to be.
So I recently had Pleats Please L'Eau as an addition in a souk delivery and thought "oh come on, on-off relationship - let's try it AGAIN..." without much hope... only to be massively surprised! Spoiler: he was allowed to move in with me in the meantime
Not a bouquet of flowers with rose, as expected from the fragrance pyramid, but soft, clean, almost creamy and somehow fresh. The musk is light and fluffy, making it perfect for spring/summer - this certain lightness is the common denominator of Issey fragrances. The rose is not a ripe, heavy red rose as in Rosa Nobile Eau de Parfum but rather delicate and white/pink. Musk and later cedar give a light but noble creaminess, much more light-footed than the fresh versions of the Narciso for her range, for example. I also find the fragrance slightly green, even if there is nothing listed that could be responsible for this.
The hardness still doesn't win a medal in terms of staying power, but at least it performs in the solid midfield and significantly better than the Drop range.
In view of the fact that this fragrance can still be worn well in warmer temperatures, this is acceptable, because warmth plus Monster H/S doesn't have to be.
Pleats Please L'Eau white and light green packaging is a perfect match for the fragrance, except for the somehow too bright pink lettering, which someone has exaggerated like a little punk who secretly listens to classical music. I find the cap very funny and creative!
With a little online searching, the price is quite reasonable (50ml from around €35), which I think is absolutely fine.
So friends of white-green summer creaminess, give this one a chance and maybe it will work for you too :
..and they lived happily ever after.... THE END
