Hmm… as I mentioned yesterday in my comment about Black Amber, there are fragrances for the cold days that can still bring a smile to your face with warm scent notes, so you don’t have to spend the whole winter grumpy like the Christmas Grinch :D
In addition to amber, vanilla is also one of those scent notes that are always wearable on cold days. We gentlemen like vanilla too, but I have the feeling that you ladies are particularly crazy about this scent note. In general, you probably also enjoy indulging in vanilla in large quantities,… but still, despite all the love for vanilla, you should not spray fragrances with this note into your mouth… I can’t guarantee that the spray will actually taste like vanilla… just wanted to mention that :DD
Today, I’m testing the vanilla fragrance from Zolty with the interesting spelling Van-Île. Île means island in French and likely represents Zolty's love for such islands, as he found a wonderful place on a small French island after years of traveling, which has become a beautiful retreat for him.
The Fragrance:
The top note primarily begins with slightly bitter orange (peel), thus smelling citrusy and zesty, although not refreshing. There’s also a feeling that a hint of pepper is present, but this fades away in the next few minutes. Along with it comes a touch of almond and a slight sweet note from heliotrope. The latter scent note also has an almond character and therefore enhances the almond note. Part of the sweetness also comes from jasmine.
Just a few minutes later, the vanilla appears, which becomes stronger over time and releases its familiar beautiful and warm scent, which also has a slightly powdery quality.
Oak moss, which appears a bit later, seems unusual for a vanilla fragrance on "paper," but it is so weak here that you can hardly perceive it or at least not immediately identify it as oak moss, as the vanilla mostly covers it. Musk with animalistic hints, as stated in the fragrance pyramid, can be smelled here a bit better. Nevertheless, the base is almost solely characterized by vanilla; the oak moss and animalistic musk bring a little variety, so that the vanilla base smells slightly different from most other vanilla-based fragrances.
The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is not overwhelming, but still quite good and noticeable. Additionally, you leave a small scent cloud behind.
The longevity is also quite decent, lasting easily eight to ten hours.
The Bottle:
The cylindrical bottle tapers slightly towards the neck like a slope. The fragrance liquid is greenish. The label is large and brown, with somewhat blurred dotted points in the background. The name is written in a beautiful and flowing script. The cap is black and also cylindrical. A nice bottle.
Van-Île is a fragrance that vanilla fans will enjoy. Even though the base with oak moss and animalistic musk might sound unusual, these two scent notes are not too strong, so they do not come off as disturbing at all (if you’re not particularly fond of these two notes); on the contrary, they even bring a bit of variety. Nevertheless, this fragrance also has the same problem hours later as all vanilla fragrances: at some point, it only smells like powdery vanilla, but that shouldn’t be a bother since it is, after all, a lovely scent note and the fragrance overall has turned out well. Exotic like an island, however, I don’t think the scent is.
The fragrance feels warm and powdery and is therefore very suitable for cold winter days (or also cool autumn days). In the office, one should apply it in smaller doses, as the sillage is good and you always leave a small scent cloud behind. For going out, you can always apply it generously if you want to suffocate everyone else or something like that :D
So it’s worth a try :)
