New brooms sweep well
I am aware that benevolent statements about reformulations and new editions are often perceived as iconoclasm and sacrilege by die-hard fans of the "originals". I don't necessarily always take myself out of this. As a long-time owner of the "original" - to what extent it is not anachronistic to equate a fragrance that has naturally matured and concentrated in the bottle with the new bottle that you bought many, many moons ago remains to be seen - I dare to say that this fragrance has its raison d'être. In the following, I would like to explain why and compare the fragrance itself with the old version - first from memory, and then in direct juxtaposition.

The fragrance is available in two sizes, 100 ml and 15 ml, and this (as of 2024) exclusively on the Jean Paul Gaultier website. The bottle design is simple, the large one is square, its atomizer is decorated with a kind of "slave ring", the lettering of the name is broken up over several lines. I like the bottle - in contrast to the 15 ml version, which comes in a very simple cylindrical bottle with a simple golden cap and linear lettering. For me, the design evokes the inexpensive "Spirit" fragrances from the drugstore.
The fragrance notes are all very heavy and therefore cannot be divided into top, heart and base notes and include jasmine, vanilla, musk, ambergris and sandalwood, so jasmine and sandalwood have been added to the old fragrance from 2005. When the fragrance is sprayed on, with knowledge of the old version, the scent impression is prima facie the same for me: warmth, a slight sting, sweetness and something slightly animalic. However, without having made a direct comparison, I instinctively knew that the similarity in juxtaposition would be much less, because: I like this one. There's a reason why I still have the rest of the old version. I wasn't enthusiastic. I'll go so far as to say I didn't like it. Very pungent on me, headachey, kind of wrong, almost tilted. Maybe it was also because I bought my little bottle back then to cover up an olfactory jumpscare at the time, the first time Jicky was on the back of my hand. Who knows. In my opinion, the intensity is at least the same, very strong and very long-lasting.
After running the fragrance today and finding a priori that it is, with reservations, a worthy replacement, I just rumbled through my stepchildren at the back of my perfume cupboard to make a direct comparison with the old version. And lo and behold, there are clear differences, which I think could have an impact on the demographic that the fragrance will appeal to.
The jasmine now included makes the new version significantly sweeter and, in my opinion, rounder - one person's "roundness" may, however, be another's "diffuse indefinability", nothing is in the foreground in the new version, or is even decidedly recognizable. In contrast, ambergris is the absolute star of the old version - in my opinion, the fragrance even has quite a Le Male, almost "showery" vibe in direct comparison to the new version. However, it was precisely this unrestrained ambergris that made the fragrance borderline unpalatable for me. As a result, I think the new fragrance had a lot more unisex appeal, pun not intended, than the new version, which I think is a little more feminine, a little more pleasing, less eccentric and a lot more digestible overall. Apologies to the purists: if it was too strong back then, then I was just too weak.

Could this have been a flanker? Certainly. Should the new one HAVE been labeled as a flanker? I don't think so. What counts for me is that I like it. Not everything was better in the past and there were reasons why the old version was discontinued and, for once, I think the new fragrance surpasses the old one.

Is not the same as the Gaultier2 Vintage
Original Gaultier2: amber, vainille, mochus
Gaultier2 new: jasmine, sandalwood, and ambergris

Call me crazy, but it makes him, a flanker.
For the same reason the complaints, because it should not be announced with great fanfare that "Gaultier2 is coming back" even though it is NOT Gaultier2.
It's not about believing or thinking on anything, they are facts, they don't carry the same notes, end of.

"Champagne on the floor for 2Pac" or Poetic Gaultier
This fragrance was brought back from the dead in a survey on the Jean Paul Gaultier website when the majority voted for a new edition of the discontinued original Gaultier² (2005). How well swarm intelligence sometimes works!
As far as I know, the fragrance is only available to buy on the Jean Paul Gaultier website.

I find the new bottle very successful and it already gives an idea that the contents are something that many perfumers would describe as "niche quality".

As soon as you spray it, you can smell yasmine and musk, amber and sandalwood are also immediately added. After a few seconds and even more clearly in the drydown, you can smell vanilla. And that's it, you could say, that's all the fragrance notes contained in this perfume. What is good can be reductionist, because the perfumers have got the hang of it here, they don't have to add anything.

The fragrance has fantastic longevity, but it is rather difficult to get it out of clothes. Perhaps that's why it's better to just spray it on the skin.
In my opinion, the sillage is also so strong that I almost think I can see a Gaultier aura around me. I can't understand the voices that attest to the fragrance's low longevity and sillage compared to the past. It must be due to nostalgia sickness.

The fragrance is clearly unisex, certainly not for summer and very warm days, as the fragrance itself is very warm. It seems perfect for fall to me, in winter you can certainly let it shine, on spring days when it's a bit cloudy I also enjoy it - like today for example. In summer, it takes a well-deserved break.

You shouldn't buy it blind, the fragrance is too unique for that.
However, despite the reductionist fragrance design, it smells multi-layered, so rich in warmth and depth that I definitely wouldn't want to be without it. I like it so much that I didn't just buy it, as I do with other bottles, but had my partner give it to me as a birthday present, a. to wait a little (=anticipation) and b. to enhance the fragrance again.
I would say that 100 EUR for 100 ml is a gift, but you are certainly not doing anything wrong if you buy this fragrance before it is discontinued. Why are you even doing this, Jean Paul Gaultier? Why? May Gaultier² (2022) last forever.

With this in mind:

Signature Scent worthy
I've been really into perfume for a little over a year now, so much so that I call it a "hobby" or passion. My activity on this platform also goes hand in hand with this. Today I finally did it. I have populated the "Signature Scent" section on my profile page.

And as you can probably guess, it's Gaultier² (2022). Why is that? I'll explain that to you! In the meantime, a steadily growing number of fragrances have found their way into the collection. But I always reach for Gaultier2. It always works. Many fragrances remind me of other fragrances in whole or in part. I haven't smelled Gaultier2 like this anywhere else; the fragrance is unique to me (unfortunately, I don't know the original; I don't have to, as I like this one as it is).

It can be worn anywhere and at any time, is not too loud, not too quiet, does not offend. In short, it's an "all-rounder" when you can't make up your mind, don't want to think or don't feel like doing anything else; at any time of day or year.

I can't really describe the fragrance. For me, it's more of a composition than individual notes that I perceive. A sweet, floral, soft creaminess that caresses you cleanly. Linear, without any major changes over time. I notice the fragrance for a really long time, even on my clothes the next day. It is a little louder in the first few hours, but not a beast. After that, it gently envelops you. And I don't really like floral fragrances, but here they are composed to perfection. It just makes me feel good when I wear it.

The only thing that bothers me is that it is (more or less) a limited edition and only available directly from JPG, which of course triggers FOMO. I already have a bunker bottle on backup, but I think I'm leaning towards another bottle if I can get it for a good price here in the souk. The maturing time by letting it stand is also quite good for it. My first usable bottle is from spring '23 and has matured nicely in the meantime.

I'm curious to see whether I'll be able to sniff any more fragrances like this as my journey of discovery continues. Because many are great, only a few are really brilliant.

Super fragrance
I knew the 2005 and was surprised when it was reissued.
It's not 1-1 the same but for me it's still one of Jean Paul gaultier's best fragrances.
The jasmine note mixed with vanilla is just a dream.
I think it's a beautiful sweet oriental fragrance with a special class.
Musk and sandalwood refine the whole thing and make it round.
I would buy it again and again.
Lasts a good 6-8 hours.
You can wear it to go out but also in the office because it is not too intrusive.

Sweet and ambery opening. The base is floral and powdery, jasmin and heliotrope. In the drydown, musk, a cozy vanilla, a creamy sandalwood.
