Where the Juicy Resins Dwell
On the evening when Max wore his amber and only had mischief on his mind, his mother scolded him: "Wild boy!" "I'll eat you up!" said Max, and so he had to go to bed without dinner. Exactly that night, a forest grew in his room. It grew and grew and grew, until the ceiling was full of fruity, ripe, and sweet citrus fruits, and the walls stretched as far as the whole world. The fog smelled slightly smoky, the earth had a sweet, juicy scent, and in the distance, perhaps a few roses might be growing.
And soon after, there was a sea of balsamic resins, shimmering amber-colored, whose vanilla-cinnamon scent mingled with the juicy citrus earthiness under the smoky fog clouds, from which suddenly a ship appeared, just for Max. And he sailed away, day and night and for many hours, to the place where the wild things live. And when he arrived there, they roared their terrible roars, gnashed their terrible teeth, and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws. Until Max said "Be still!" and tamed them with his magical scent that wafted into their yellow noses. Then they became completely enchanted and made Max their king. "And now," shouted Max, "let's all bathe in the vanilla-fruity, resinous-smoky sea of musk!"
"Enough now!" shouted Max many hours later and sent the wild things to bed without dinner. And Max only wanted to be where someone loved him the most. Suddenly, it smelled around him of good food, and it came from far away across the world. He no longer wanted to be king, but the wild things screamed: "Please don't go! We'll eat you up! We like you so much!" And Max said: "No!" The wild things roared their terrible roars, gnashed their terrible teeth, rolled their terrible eyes, and showed their terrible claws. But Max climbed into his ship and waved goodbye. And he sailed back, almost the whole night, and for many hours and one more minute, until he reached his room, where it was night and a sweet vanilla porridge was waiting for him. And it was still warm.
