The Last One Turns Off the Light
Imagine there is this meadowsweet. A shy, charming creature that everyone always overlooks and has stolen your heart. And you’ve heard she is at this gathering with a few acquaintances. You know them, and you don’t really have anything against them, but you’re only going to the gathering because of this heavenly creature.

And then the long-awaited evening arrives. You’re excited as can be, have thought of all sorts of things you want to say, what you want to find out about her, and so on.

It’s a memorable evening: The grapefruit jumps out at you and doesn’t leave. It takes you over and chats your ear off. Then, fashionably late, the wheat arrives. He stands in the doorway for a long time and then finally sits down. The wheat is a cool guy, but rather reserved. And the grapefruit is chatting away the whole time. Then the vetiver appears. The only one you already know well, who can interrupt the constantly talking grapefruit, and brings about an interesting conversation with his buddy wheat and you.
But you keep glancing at the door, waiting for the meadowsweet.
Just before eleven o’clock, the grapefruit disappears. The wheat hops on his bike shortly after and rides off.

At some point just before midnight, you finally understand - meadowsweet, she’s not coming anymore. And together with the vetiver, you sit depressed at the bar, drunkenly staring at the dusty bottles of schnapps.

First just intense grapefruit, a brief interlude with wheat, and in the end only vetiver. No trace of meadowsweet - not even as a platonic idea. Unisex. Sillage okay, longevity average, price-performance ratio very questionable.

Memories of My Kingdom
I am a happy man. Because I - at least this has always been the case so far - have generally been most satisfied with my current age. If I could choose, I would often wish to simply hold on to the present. With a few exceptions - those moments when I count gray hairs too closely and for too long in front of the bathroom mirror - I never wanted to be sixteen or twenty-five again.

I am a happy man. Because I - and happiness is often only recognized when it’s gone - had a carefree childhood. That is one thing I sometimes think back to with longing - that this all-encompassing carefreeness beyond childhood never returned. Picking flowers in the meadow for my mother and looking forward to how happy she will be on the way home. A Mini Milk and half an hour of Tom & Jerry. And nothing else.

The meadow where I picked flowers was not far from our house. It was not a special meadow. People took their dogs there. Buttercups and dandelions grew there - and further down, coltsfoot, dead-nettles, and meadow foam. I played hide and seek there, learned to ride a bike, and scraped my knees. This meadow was the kingdom of my carefree childhood, for which I am so grateful to have had.

Jo Malone's Green Wheat & Meadowsweet is the scent of my lost kingdom. Although it was a Rhenish meadow and not an English one. Although I can’t really remember either meadowsweet or wheat. A scent of innocence and youth. It is simple and unadorned - and creating such simple and unadorned scents is often the most difficult. Fresh, green-bitter grass and a hint of honey sweetness. The meadow. Later a Mini Milk and Tom & Jerry. And nothing else.

Conclusion: I am a happy man. And scents like this remind me of that. In case I ever forget.

A Piece of Holiday Feeling in the Mediterranean
Today I am writing again about one of the new Jo Malone - English Fields fragrances. As you may know, these fragrances aim to impart a special note through various grain notes. Today, I will comment on Green Wheat & Meadowsweet, which translates to Green Wheat and Meadowsweet.

Although I have tried this fragrance before, I was able to test it more extensively recently during a Jo Malone event. Although the delicious snacks and free drinks were the real reason for my presence at the event (argh, I probably shouldn't mention that, now I'll never get invited to such events again…!), I did enjoy all the fragrances quite a bit :DD

But seriously, the new fragrances from Jo Malone all have something appealing about them, and I believe that each one is worth testing; there should be a nice scent for almost every taste!

The Fragrance:
The fragrance starts off briefly fresh with a zesty grapefruit, which I really like; however, it seems to smell longer and more intensely on a test strip than on my skin. You can also recognize this grapefruit note much more easily on paper, as it wasn't immediately apparent on my skin (at least not on my skin), and this scent was simply perceived as "citrusy."
In any case, green notes quickly come into play. These are just general green notes; perhaps one could also call them plant juices, which, in my opinion, smell really great. Gradually, the fragrance develops a dry, wheat-like note. The dryness feels like a plant that has been roasted or dried in the sun, so warm-dry with a slightly Mediterranean feeling. Overall, it is a lovely scent that, in my opinion, is not an everyday fragrance and comes across nicely. This makes the fragrance seem spicy to me, even though it retains a pleasant freshness. The only thing I'm unsure about is how the meadowsweet truly smells (or perhaps it is the meadowsweet that comes across as so dry). In any case, over time I detect light, sweet notes that seem to become more powdery in the later base, almost smelling vanilla-like.
Otherwise, the fragrance is also somewhat dry in the (late) base, a bit green, and as previously described, slightly powdery or creamy sweet, even if that might sound a bit contradictory due to the dry notes. The fragrance seems generally not very complex, but it has something… something pleasing about it that one should try out.

The Sillage and Longevity:
The longevity is moderate, although it should radiate a bit stronger at first. Unfortunately, it is not a scent that will be easily detectable from a distance.
The longevity is quite okay; you can smell the fragrance for about eight hours, maybe even a bit longer (but then only very faintly).

The Bottle:
Ah, the bottles of the entire fragrance line here are very beautiful. Strictly speaking, the bottle is actually just rectangular and slim. But the lovely pastel colors (this one is a pale light green) look great, and additionally, the rocky wallpaper in the lower third of the bottle greatly enhances its appearance, making it not only look good but also feel nice. In contrast, the rather discreetly placed name of the fragrance on the front seems unassuming. As I said, a very beautiful bottle.

First of all, I must say that this fragrance, out of all five, really comes across as unisex, while the other four seem more feminine. This is probably because the fragrance, especially at the beginning, comes across as less sweet and more citrusy and, above all, dry-grain-like. The term "dry" might be perceived negatively here, but it is a lovely kind of dry-floral scent. It feels to me, as I mentioned earlier in the fragrance description, a bit Mediterranean. By that, I mean that wonderful feeling when you walk through meadows and fields with rocky-dusty hiking paths in sunny vacation spots in Mediterranean countries and perceive those dry plant notes.

Later, the dryness of the fragrance subsides a bit, and the scent gradually becomes more powdery-sweet, although the sillage decreases significantly. But that doesn't matter, as the fragrance always smells nice and good to me.

You can wear this fragrance well in spring and summer, especially during the day, as it has not become a scent for going out for me; however, I think it would also work wonderfully for evening strolls. In any case, I find the fragrance very worth trying :)

The Bite of a Sour Grapefruit Without Grimacing.
I can already tell you, I am in love with this scent. It is a dreamy companion for the warmer spring days and summer.

The Bottle:
But before I get carried away with my enthusiasm, let's first discuss the obvious: the bottle design. Typical for Jo Malone fragrances in a limited edition, all English Fields scents appear in the classic Jo Malone design with a twist. This time, the glass of the bottle is painted in pastel colors and glazed in the lower third with a structured and contrasting color. This creates a texture reminiscent of stone and porcelain, as if Jo Malone had teamed up with Villeroy & Boch. It is elegant and chic and fits perfectly in the hand. The cap is made of plastic this time and is in the same color as the upper two-thirds of the bottle. The caps fit a bit tighter than usual, making the fragrance often release with a satisfying "pop" sound. As beautiful as the bottles are, they do have a downside and an upside at the same time. On one hand, the fragrance is somewhat protected from light, but even held against a light source, the fill level can only be guessed at. Additionally, the color transitions are not cleanly executed on all bottles, and some have a slight color shadow in the transition. Those who care about this should take a close look at the bottles before purchasing.

The Fragrance:
In Green Wheat & Meadowsweet, three fragrance notes primarily come together. As a result, the development of the scent over time is rather minimal. It starts with a grapefruit that we have not encountered in this form from Jo Malone before. While the grapefruit in the namesake EdC was rather bitter, here we are greeted with a sweeter, gentler grapefruit that still hasn't fallen into the candy bowl and has nothing to do with a cleaning product scent. This grapefruit is delicate, sweet, juicy, and has just the right amount of acidity, without making you grimace when taking a bite. Here, neither the sour enjoyment nor any bitterness tugs at the taste buds, but rather a freshness kick perfectly suited for breakfast in the morning comes to meet you.
Very quickly after the grapefruit, the green wheat and meadowsweet set in. The scent becomes softer, retains its freshness, and the slightly sweet, floral note adds a hint of creaminess. I can also easily perceive the subtle spiciness mentioned in the statements. It’s almost as if not just the flowers of the meadowsweet, but the entire plant has flowed into the fragrance, and it is astonishing how lovely a plant that can grow up to 2m tall can smell. By the way, it’s also a great medicinal plant. ;)
After that, the fragrance does not change for me and clings to my skin for 6 hours, which I am absolutely satisfied with, as it is good just the way it is and does not need to change anymore. With this longevity, it ranks in the middle among Jo Malone fragrances for me.

Conclusion:
Grain notes and perfume, I couldn't quite imagine that, but it works. Every fragrance in the collection is enchanting, and this one is the freshest among them. My personal favorite, as it vaguely reminds me of Chanel Chance eau Fraiche, and it’s almost as if the slightly biting citrus notes have been taken from the Chanel scent and transformed it into a well-rounded experience. I can hardly wait for the warmer spring days to arrive so that this fragrance becomes my everyday companion.

Mild green, un-dry hay with still green grain and a decent portion of gentle pomelo. Vetiver comes in later.

It smells sour like bread dough here. Becoming more green-powdery. The scent of hay and dry grasses is in the air.

Surprisingly uncomfortable: the sweet-spicy-bitter hay pierces straight through my nose to my head - migraine-inducing. Later, it becomes soothingly milder.

Spicy-fresh, reminds me of "Néroli Outrenoir," even though the two have nothing in common in terms of notes.
My favorite from the new line.
