Carrot + apple juice - a sour and fruity scent with a slight creaminess.

After an hour or so, it turns into a (slightly piss-like) floral

Scotland Yellow

In 2022, Euan McCall released the Scottish Odyssey collection. This series is built around different parts of the scottish land and folklore. It does so in a contemporary impressionist kind of way, rather than taking one scent and recreating it as photorealistic as possible. Gorseland depics the scottish mountain landscape full of the sun-blazed yellow of gorse bushes.

Gorseland leaves an incredibly sunny and refreshing impression, even without much citrus. It opens with a note of green apple juice, infused with the herbal tingles of chamomile. Slowly a coconut creaminess appears. I suppose that resembles the yellow gorse flowers that are lauded for their coconut-like scent. When the scent has fully opened up, I get a variety of herbs and flowers. It remains in this comfortable state with a tingling dry sensation and a creamy undertone. The scent is as neon yellow in color as the bottle suggests.

This perfume is clearly made for summer but even now, on a rainy day in October, it wears like a charm. Euan McCall is scoring points in my book. I have only tried three of his perfumes so far and ended up buying two of them already. Pretty sure more will follow.

Countryside landscape with yellow flowers

The citrus opening with green apples and the yellow flowers of a wild field bring back good memories.
I associate the aroma with a vacation in Ibiza in the summer of 1978. After arriving at the port, I headed towards the San Mateo region in the interior of the island, to the house of a friend who had invited me to stay.
It was a wilder and more primitive part of the island, and while I was looking for my host's house, the paths became increasingly narrow, confusing, dirt, inhospitable or absent. As if I was penetrating a territory located in another dimension. At the same time the rest of the world was getting further away. I remember passing in a depression in the ground (almost a large grave) where some very old women, dressed in dark, but silent and smiling, were handling fruit in the cool shade of a stone house next to an apple orchard. There were baskets of lemons and dried figs on the dirt floor.
Shortly after, I passed through some brooms and ended up, at a certain moment, already lost and not knowing where I was, on a small plateau that seemed to have its origin in the vibrant blue horizon of the midday sky. The warm aroma of fig leaves arrived from afar and the song of cicadas fell sharply on the inhospitable soil covered by low plants but resistant to adverse weather conditions. I wandered among tufts of gorse and marigolds that spread out like a yellow carpet exhaling a scent of earth, thistles and chamomile. As the heat was very high, the shimmer of the air made everything less clear near the ground.
A little further away, emerging from the horizon, a white house with no roof began to materialize, completing the surreal landscape.

After I came across fragrances with broom via the advanced search (see Marterosso Eau de Toilette and my last review), I quickly found Gorseland, which already has broom in its name (Ginsterland) and also has a bunch of incredibly rare ingredients.

Rayless (i.e. flowerless) chamomile dominated the excellent Hylnds - Spirit of the Glen, Balkan cranesbill (a type of geranium / cranesbill with geraniol, also known as a medicinal plant) is found in the beautiful Pear + Olive, gooseberry is a significant part of the majestic Land of Warriors: good prerequisites for an exciting fragrance, especially as you can really perceive all three in Gorseland. In addition, there are such rare fragrances as crab apple, tragacanth, elderflower, bramble and woodruff, which may be found in well-stocked parks, but here we should only speak in general terms of a cuvée of green notes. Since I'm not one of those people who write off (almost) all the ingredients and claim to smell them, let's leave it at that. Complain below if you want to.

In addition to the three scent-determining notes mentioned above, a shy lavender and the ordinary (non-radiant) chamomile also smell good. However, you should make a little effort here!
I'll leave the analysis of whether you could recognize cannabis here to the more experienced consumers: I don't like the smell and, fortunately, I don't think I smell anything here.

You could, of course, come up with the idea that Jorum wanted to land a gag with Gorseland and could have mixed as many exotic green notes as possible into one fragrance, but Euan McCall always knows what he is doing and he actually has a tendency to combine idiosyncratic, rare and yet olfactorily aesthetic notes (compare his other fragrances) - and I swear to you: the above combination is extremely beautiful! But you have to like chamomile and broom. Then it's a perfect match.

Rayless chamomile... i'm lying flat :-)

The reason I wanted to add this fragrance to my olfactive - olfactory - mental collection was the BALKAN-STORCHSCHNABEL... what is it? What does it smell like? Where does it come from? Does it hurt...?

What I experienced... was magnificent: the full chamomile with all its radiance took hold of me and drew my nose closer and closer to the paper. Wow - the full blast. Herbal, deep, pollen... everything a bee can imagine to drive a movie.

I love it, yes again - I love this scent!

But what about BALKAN-STORCHSCHNABEL now?
Can you enlighten me... :-)
