Pineapple fougère
Fougere´s opening is very classic and invigorating, with a barbershop feeling on it, with a fresh, bitter lime and the balsamic note of basil (that will play here the aromatic substitute of the traditional lavender) But there is a twist, since suddenly the golden-green sweet-sour extravagant pineapple emmerges from the gentleman-like notes, as expected as if a mirrorball goes down from the ceiling of this proper barbershop, and the music starts. Pineapple´s exotic zest is balanced with a low profile tonka, deep herbaceous note of geranium, invigorating minty whiffs of basil, and a bitter floralcy of Neroli, so Fougére´s fruit juiciness is never really sweet. At this point we can say we have a modern sport fragance, with its ozonic/aquatic note included, based on a classic fougére structure and a masculine retro charm. Steam punk perfumery?
This first phase reminds me powerfully to Jesus del Pozo´s Quasar, maybe my first perfume ever, when i was 14 or 15... The fruitiness of Quasar faded soon, which doesnt happen in Fougère, so i think i prefer this last one (but Quasar´s bottle is super cool)
Slowly the pineapple transforms into a crisp, radiant sandalwood, that will be the very center of the drydown. This transition is lovely, as it still keeps the aromatic aspects. Despite this is a fougère, tonka bean is never very much noticeable at the drydown as it is sandalwood, i smell not openly the balmy, vanillic notes of coumarin.
Despite its extravagant touches, it is a functional fragance, so don´t expect a very complex composition. Nevertheless, Fougère has a vibrant, dynamic quality that i find very pleasant.
