Visit to the Palace
Right from the start, the almond-marzipan bouquet unfolds almost explosively. Gradually, some floral accords (I smell peach, peony, and freesia) join in, always delicate and almost fragile, and always accompanied by a warm, soft sweetness with a distinct patchouli note. Nothing in this fragrance is in any way excited, squeaky, or prominent. Everything radiates calm, silence, and warmth.

Before my inner eye, an empty room in a palace unfolds. The heavy red velvet curtains are slightly drawn. A fine scent, reminiscent of old cabinets that haven't been aired out for some time, fills the entire room. Somewhere, a very subtle fragrance of peonies or freesias wafts to my nose. The room lies absolutely quiet and still. Only the flowers are changed from time to time by the concierge.

I find the mood throughout the entire scent journey of Terra Incognita to be very pleasant. But to be honest: I look forward to going back out onto the street and diving into life! Seen this way, Terra Incognita is a beautiful fragrance, finely composed, but unfortunately not for me!

The longevity of the scent is also exceptional. Even after cooking, handling spices and herbs, and multiple hand washes, I can always perceive the warm, soft sweet note of Terra Incognita. Quite extraordinary.

However, for a friend of mine, this would be the perfect fragrance. But I still need to wait for a special occasion (after all, the price is quite special too!).

A Break from Everyday Life
This is quite an intriguing scent.

My first impression is unsweetened marzipan, so the almond note already shines through the opening. But very quickly, I envision a beautiful old library in my mind's eye. No, not the city library, but the reading room in a private villa, an elegant apartment, or a similar setting. Well, it can be a bit dusty. But the pages of the precious books are made of very fine paper, possibly even with gilded edges. Patchouli leaves a hint of dry earth behind, but musty, as one might assume, it is not at all in that room. The windows are wide open, the sun is shining in, and in large floor vases, there are peony bouquets spreading an elegant floral scent.

In this atmosphere, I would love to forget time in a soft armchair and completely detach from everyday life, immersing myself in the contents of these precious books. Untraceable to the rest of the world - indeed in terra incognita.

Melancholic, as Antoine experiences the scent, I do not find it, but I think I know what she means. The fragrance exudes a certain kind of melancholy, but one that I enjoy sinking into from time to time. A mood in which I am unapproachable for anyone and from which I emerge each time feeling strengthened. A time of rest for the soul...

Neil Morris sends his regards and bows his head in reverence
Antoine has also bestowed this delicacy upon me (ages ago, though, but I'm slowly working my way through).
Freshly applied, a cloud of patchouli floods over me. "Neil Morris" is my first thought. And indeed, the opening bears a certain resemblance to the earthy-heavy hits from our American friend. But that quickly passes. I curiously sniff my wrist, surprised that patchouli can disappear so fast. Unusual!
A light powderiness, indefinable but wonderfully fluffy, can only be sensed. Is that it? Still puzzled, I'm not quite sure how to feel about this.
But this fragrance needs a little time. The confusion is complete. The final phase becomes stronger again. Now the flowers come into play. Almond with jasmine, a mix of milk almond shake with jasmine decor. Or something like that. It’s really hard to describe, a bit of amber is still present. And something green-creamy, if that even exists.
I have the chypre from Jovoy and I'm thrilled with it. This one is no less fascinating. The development goes against all "normal" expectations, as it seems to be all mixed up.
Conclusion: the longer Terra Incognita stays on the skin, the better, warmer, cozier, and more fascinating it becomes. This sets it apart quite a bit from the Neil Morris scents, which are relatively linear and sometimes don't develop much on the skin.

16.03.2012
Addendum: I'm not quite as enthusiastic anymore. Worn again yesterday, Terra Incognita gave me a headache and a cough. But, all good things come in threes. At some point, I will revisit the sample.

Ginger Peach with Almond Marzipan Served on a Fine Wood Plate
What an interesting scent composition. I initially smell ginger, almonds, and marzipan, peach, and something greenish - I guess it's the papyrus.

Then the fragrance changes and the almond note disappears, making way for something fresh. But not a citrus freshness, rather green and exceptionally pleasant, adorned with peony and freesia. However, I cannot perceive jasmine.

The scent reminds me of something, but I can't quite grasp it.

Later, a lighter ginger-almond tone returns, more ginger than almond, and the green freshness transforms into a rounded, green warmth.

Still, no sweetness comes through, even though the scent almost seems gourmand.

This is a fragrance of extremes and super interesting. I certainly wouldn't buy it, as it doesn't really align with my fragrance direction, but it is an incredible scent and I thank the Parfumo friend who made this sensual experience possible for me.

Lady In Grey
I can only agree with Antoine, this is a truly extraordinary fragrance. Cool, distant, elegant, self-contained, somewhat mystical.

Before my eyes, the "terra incognita" unfolds like a vast, quiet winter landscape. No thick snow-covered cottages with cozy illuminated windows and the scent of pre-Christmas cookies wafting out, but flat land under a thin layer of snow, a few islands of leafless black trees, and apart from a flock of crows, no sign of life. The wind drives veils of snow across it, causing the backdrop to occasionally blur into a whitish-gray fog. Empty, lonely, and cold, yet not desolate. Just resting, lingering in hibernation, which is part of the natural cycle.

The scent reminds me most of cool, solid powder; dry, but absolutely not dusty or tickling the nose. Or of creamy lotion made from almond and apricot kernel oil, which still retains the subtle scent of the natural raw materials. The flowers are only hinted at and not really detectable. The understated patchouli-amber base surprisingly does not turn sweet on my skin and grounds the gentle fragrance beautifully.

Despite the powdery note, "Terra Incognita" is not a cozy or clean scent, rather a light, dry, and strangely cool oriental without spices. It is the scent of an independent, self-assured elegant lady with long silver-gray hair, who no longer has anything to prove to anyone and is simply herself. An eye-catcher that one inevitably notices, yet without any eccentricity.
I believe this fragrance suits younger women less, but I could definitely imagine it on men.

Thank you, Antoine, for sharing this discovery and the sample. I am once again completely fascinated by a fragrance that is actually not my usual direction, and I am adding it to my "Want to Have Someday" list.

Challenging, almost animalistic notes on me and a sweetness reminiscent of Roma. Definitely a vintage touch and, as I read, great for all of you...
