A Sophisticated Berry Rose (Fruity Floral)
Keiko Mecheri DAMASCENA offers a niche-quality black currant rose combination which smells really swell. The fruit is jammy and the rose is vibrant, and it all blends together extremely well. This particular perfume in the impressive rose line-up of this house would be perfect for younger perfumistas looking to move to a more sophisticated fruity floral.
I am reminded slightly, but only slightly, of Annick Goutal QUEL AMOUR. The biggest different between the two is that DAMASCENA does not appear to contain any rose geranium, whereas the Goutal has probably more geranium than rose, at least according to my nose. But I do think that anyone who likes QUEL AMOUR would probably love DAMASCENA.
I was surprised to find that DAMASCENA is such a fruity rose, given the name, which suggested to my mind that this would be a more stately or traditional rose. But it smells very nice and is more laid back and casual than many rose perfumes, which should be welcome news for those who shun tea rose and dowager-ready compositions. (-;
